New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Welcome

I would also suggest a good read as there are a few threads already with thte information you are asking for.

Specializes in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Medical.

has anyone heard of this , Arial]Sawsee International Corp in Manila?

thank you for your quick reply aelith. Too bad that most of the universities there are already closed for the 2009 intake. So which university is still open? I'm really hoping to study there by 2009. Will i be able to qualify for permanent residency after i study in one of these universities? My goal realy is to be a PR there after i study. BTW, are you already enrolled in university of sydney?:)

Specializes in Med-Surg / ICU / Aged Care.

just a thought regarding QNC

after passing the written challenge test, you are given 3 months to take the clinical test in australia. how sure are you that you would be able to get visitor/student visa within 3 months (considering the medical/documentary preparation, and volume of visa application in aus embassy)? imagine if you fail to do so, then your "passing marks of the written test" would just expire..

another thing i don't know, if you take and fail the clinical exam in australia, you will be referred to a 4 week module on clinical practice.. how much does this cost?? (we know the cost of the tests and theory modules, but how about the clinical module?)

thank you very much for any reply to clarify.

You're welcome. :)

Do you have relatives in NSW that is why you want to study there? You can still apply in University of Sydney, UTS, ACU and probably UWS this month. Just make sure you submit ASAP. I think they are still accepting applications up to the end of the month. Also, the IELTS requirement for USYD is flat 7.0 in all bands (minimum). The other Universities have lower requirement.

There are other Universities in other states that have a July entry if you want to study outside NSW.

You will be eligible to apply for PR after the 2 years course, however, it is a point-based system, so you will have to meet other criteria to get the required points which is 120. But because you have finished a 2 year course in Australia, the working experience required will be waived. However, you will have to lodge your application within 6 months after you finished your course.

Should you not meet the required points for the Independent Skilled (resident) visa, you can apply for the Graduate Skilled (temporary) visa which will allow you to stay in Australia for another 18 months to complete the required 1 year work experience so you can apply for the Independent Skilled (resident) visa. You can apply for the permanent visa anytime within the 18 months period.

I have only applied to USyd and still weighing my options for another pathway lol. Talk about being too undecided. :chuckle

I think the 3 months can be waived under certain circumstances. Visa problems might be excusable as well as certain medical conditions. The best thing to do is ask QNC about it. :)

The clinical module is about 905 AUD too if I am not mistaken. If you look at the 4 Education Modules, 1 module is for the clinical part in Australia which is 4 weeks. The price per modules is 902 or 905 AUD according to Central Queensland University's website.

thanks aelith, as always..

i guess the clinical module is not "online" meaning i have to stay in australia to complete that module..

Yes. It is not online. For both the Education Modules and Challenge test pathways, you will have to go to Australia to complete the Clinical Part. :) The only difference is the duration - 1 day for Challenge test and 4 weeks for the Education Modules.

Hi. Can you PM me what is the name of the agency? Thanks!

hi SHEIKHA! its the same as the one you have attended at Renaissance. Have you decided on anything about your application?

After your module or your exam you can have your medicals from the australian embassy. That would take about a month. You can have your medicals as early as now because medicals will be valid for a year even without lodging your application for a visa. Apply for a short stay visa temporary valid for 3 months in Australia. After doing Part B for a day or a month for the clinical and gaining your registration then you can apply for long stay visa through your employer. That's a change of visa. While processing your application, the embassy will give you a bridging visa wherein you have to wait for approval of your work permit.:twocents:

for those who attended the nursing expo..which presentation did you prefer ansm or eca? if i were to invest my savings who do you think is legit among the two ?
