New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

Thank you Ma'am Aelith for the valuable information you posted in this thread! Good luck and God bless to you! :saint:

I sent my application to QNC last September 18, 2008. I received today the acknowledgment letter of my application and the corresponding fees. To those who are about to lodge their application in Queensland, please take note that QNC increased their application and assessment fees since July 1, 2008 (from $47 AUD & $104 AUD to $49 AUD & $109 AUD).

Good luck to us all! :wink2:

hi lecna31,

May I ask you certain questions? Can I use an application package 1 that I print out from the web? Or I have to ask for a hard copy of an application package 1 from Queensland board? and before you sent your application, did you have to take IELTS first?

Please help me ~thanks ^^

hi patsy_th!

Yes, just download the application package QNC1 from the web. Actually the only thing they revised in the form is the amount. I paid only the application fee & assessment fee with a total of $158 AUD using the credit card. No, I didn't take IELTS. It is stated in the application package that the "Council suggests that you do not undertake an English language test until your application has been assessed and you have been advised of requirements for eligibility". I sent the application form together with my school credentials (transcript, diploma), PRC documents (board certificate), PRC verification request (sent by PRC to QNC), certified copy of passport and reference letter from the hospital (I have 3 months hospital experience as a volunteer staff nurse). I hope this helps. :wink2:

hello,

just wanna ask, did you receive an "acknowledgment" only or did you receive an "approval" from QNC allowing you to take the CAS? which is which? But i guess it is not yet an approval, because your application was sent just a month ago, i guess it takes months to wait to receive the "approval".

anyways, would you be kind enaf to post once your receive your "approval" so that other members will have an idea how long is the waiting time nowadays..

thank you. good luck...

Hi again! anyone here who has been accepted into the CAS Program without prior experience?

-What should an inexperienced nurse answer in item 5 (Most recent practise box) of the application form?

-What about item 6 (Competence declaration)? It states that one must have

a) been employed within the last 5 years OR

b) been required within the last 5 years to use nursing skills... OR

c) completed an accredited or approved pre-registration...program

Should I tick the box that states that I am unable to declare that I am competent to practise?? Im really confused please help me

hello,

there are about 37 pages in this thread.. in one of the pages your question was also asked and then later answered.. the answer is something like: you have to execute another document (i.e. statutory declaration, affidavit).. you can call for help to other members who will go to QNC through an agency, because they know how to do it (hope they will help you considering they pay thousands of pesos to the agency)..

that's most i could assist you.. good luck...

hi cioman94!

It is an acknowledgment letter from QNC informing that they received my application and payment...not approval for CAS. Yes, I will post here any updates i will have from QNC. :)

the part-time job can sustain your living expenses especially if you will be living in a shared accommodation. i can help you in the accommodation part. casual jobs are around 18 up per hour and you are allowed to work 20 hours per week. there are a lot of jobs available in sydney too so there's much to choose from.

Universities in Sydney

University of Sydney (as of 2008, 22800 AUD/year for the Masters Degree but expect it to go up on 2009)

University of Technology, Sydney (18,200 AUD/year for 2009 for Graduate Entry)

University of Western Sydney (24,500 AUD/year for graduate entry for 2009)

Australian Catholic University (Mackillop Campus - 16800 AUD/year for BSN prog for 2009)

Universities outside Sydney

University of Wollongong

Charles Sturt University

University of New Castle

University of New England

Southern Cross University

Tuition fees range from 17k - 25k AUD per school year.

The normal intake is Jan/Feb/March. If I'm not mistaken, ACU is the only one with July intake.

If you are going for 2009, I am not sure if you'll make it for Semester 1 entry as the closing date is this month for most Universities, some closed already.

You can google the Universities if you want more in-depth info. I can guide you through the application process should you need it. :)
