New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

where did you apply?

my timeline:

1. QNC:

Nov 2008, submitted my documents...after 2 weeks, received the receipt (acknowledgement letter)

then....(Christmas and New Year's Break)...

Feb 2009, QNC asked additional documents from me...

March 2009, i have to pass an English Language exam and CAS...:)

2. NBV

Aug 2008, submitted my documents...after a week or so, received the receipt (acknowledgement letter)

1st week of Sept. 2008, NBV asked me additional documents...

April Received Receipt ( Acknowledgment )

June 2009 Received Assessment ( Needed additional Documents)

July 2009 Sent Additional Documents

Aug 2009 Waiting..

Sept 2009 Wishing it arrives..

Why did you apply to 2 States?

already did..but no definite time. I guess its takes around 7-8 weeks based on other peoples timelines.. so here's to hoping..so you're going with the CAS way ? or NBV since you have both ?

I just want to share to everyone the time frame of my application..

3rd week of FEB sent the application and documents to NBV

4th week of FEB application payment debited to my credit card

3rd week of MARCH received letter from NBV informing me I need to undertake bridging course

3rd week of MARCH applied and enrolled with ETEA

4th week of MARCH paid half of the course fee

1st week of APRIL underwent Medical Exam for the Visa application

3rd week of APRIL called Australian Embassy in Philippines for the pickup of my 456 visa application, picked up April 25

April 30 got my passport back with visa label

May 23 left for Australia

June to August Bridging Course

4th week of July Job Interview

1st week of August Job Offer

2nd week of August Sponsorship filed, 457 visa application lodged

3rd week of August Course completion sent to NBV by ETEA

Medical Exam as advised by visa case officer

I am now waiting for my registration and my 457 visa.. I did everything on my own.. I hope my story will give everyone encouragement and strive to get registered here in Australia..

how come you had to take the medical exam twice? I thought that medical exams were valid for six months? is there a difference in the two medical exams you underwent?

it depends on my ielts results...my old ielts have already expired so i have to have a new one...:)

if my results would be enough to meet the QNC's criteria then i would go for qnc..:)

i believe the reason why she underwent a medical exam again is because of the visa...her visa will be changed so a new medical exam result is needed...

are you still waiting for NBV results? it's really taking too long these days :( I'll be on my 3rd month of waiting on Sept 19. I was supposed to get it by July 19 based on 30-day turn around time...

Hopefully, we get our positive assessments very soon.

@ jm21 This link posted by punjabi should be able to help you understand the QNC path. If not just ask in the forum. It shows the pathway of the things you need to do.

I just had the blood test redone, HIV, Hep B and Hep C.. I guess they want to make sure blood results are accurate, that's what I think.. That will depend on the visa officer what medical exams you still need to undergo its case to case basis.. I cant tell what was required of me will be the same for everyone...
