I'll be graduating in June and moving back home to Ohio. I was wondering if any of you knew the chances of getting a job in the ER right out of school. I have EMS background but that's it.

Thanks. :)

Hello,

I was wondering if you had any personal experiences with this program? I went to KMC/GVMC a symposium this past Sept 08 and there was talk of this program. I will be graduating in May 09 from Miami, and that seems to be the only hospital in this area that has a rn residency

If you're interested in Cincinnati, University Hospital has a critical care internship program for new grads going into ICU, ED, and PACU. Being a level 1 trauma and in the middle of the city - our ED is never boring!!! You may want to try applying online or calling recruiter. Wherever you go, I would do it sooner rather than later since most May grads will start applying for these types of spots around Jan/Feb/Mar and they tend to fill quickly. Good luck on whatever you decide~

Specializes in Not too many areas I haven't dipped into.

I don't know of any hospital that doesn't have some type of residency, internship program for orientation of new grads or those new to a certain area

I know that almost all of them do, but I am interested in the ones that will allow you to work before you pass boards. I know that KMC network has one, Fort Hamilton, and University Hospital.

It may take awhile before I am able to sit for boards, because apparently OHIO is a little behind. I don't want to go too long after graduation still working as a PCT seeing how I've worked my butt off in nursing school.

Miami Valley has a really great new grad ER internship it is 20 weeks...

You already have to be licensed before you start their program. I'm a PCT there.

I do not think they will let you work in ohio with out being licensed first, at least i have not heard of anywhere in this area....

Some places have graduate nurse positions. This is where we can practice under a RN
