I've got 3 job offers & I just don't know what to choose. I am so thankful that I have this problem, but I obviously need to be sure about whatever I pick. Here they are & maybe you all can help me out? My biggest concern is family/work balance. I have 1 yr old & 7 yr old that I homeschool. I need to think about them as they've sacrificed for me to go to school & they grow so fast! I also am considering becoming a CNM down the road.
1) Outpatient Dialysis - 36-40 hrs/WK, $25/hr
2) County hospital L&D $24.52/hr until orientation is complete then $27.52
3) County hospital ER
Any advice or input is so appreciated. I feel a pull to ER & L&D, but I wonder if dialysis would be less stressful? My dad is on dialysis so I have a special place in my heart for these pts as well. Thanks so much!

Which do you like the best, which hours best fulfill your work-life needs, and which will best prepare you for your long term goals?

If family is your highest priority, I would look into more schedule-related details, particularly for the hospital positions. Would you start on nights? If so, how long would you spend on nights? Would that work for your family situation? What are the weekend and holiday requirements? I wouldn't be swayed toward the position that pays a couple of bucks more unless the schedule details will work for you.
Good luck to you!
Exactly, I'm not going to pick based on money. The scheduling thing is all up in the air anyway. Dialysis is roughly 5-4, L&D draws numbers to pick shifts, ER I'm not sure yet. I can see how working nights would be great for us, I can see how working days could be good too. Dialysis would give me a better chance of being off on holidays, but that's not a guarantee or anything. We have a nanny so we can make any of the hours work best. I guess I want someone to make the decision for me so I can blame them if it doesn't work out so great LOL! Thanks for your help!!

Any chance you can get more info related to onboarding/orientation/education provided for new grads in those positions you were offered? That would be a big factor for me.
Ultimately, you have to choose what you feel is best (I've been there, I know it's NOT easy though). Best wishes, those decisions are hard to make!
I've got most of the info already. I keep making a pros/cons list & it's honestly about equal on all sides. I think I'm just going to have to pick & love with it. Though I keep leaning toward hospital. Dialysis just doesn't pull me in the same way as ER & L&D, and I don't want to be the nurse who isn't invested or caring enough in her job. I've got to be a little happy too, in addition to balanced with life.

If you plan on becoming a CNM, I'd say go with L&D.

This is what I was thinking.
Thank you all! I've been thinking & reflecting on this & I think L&D is the best choice. I'd still love to do some time in an ER someday, but the smartest thing for now & the long run is L&D.
