Hi everyone! I will be graduating with my BSN this May. I plan to take my NCLEX after graduating but then when it comes to work I don't know what to do. I am currently an intern on a unit that I love at my University's hospital. It's likely they will offer me a position as an RN after graduating. However, my fiance is being stationed in New York come this March. I live in the Southwest, by the way. He will be in New York until the fall, when he will be deployed for either 6 or 9 months. I am unsure about whether I should move out there and be with him for the few months he will be in New York and get a nursing job at the hospital there, and remain there while he deploys OR if I should stay in my hometown and work where I am almost guaranteed a job... Any advice on your first year as a nurse? Can I do it with little-no support? Is this internship I have too big of an opportunity to throw away? Should I take 6 months off to be with him in New York and then look for jobs back home while he's away? Also, tips on how to get my license in NY if my current state (and NY for that matter) are not apart of the compact? Any advice or opinion is appreciated. thanks, y'all!

Hello,
That is a tough decision to weigh...
I think I would stay and work at the job that is more than likely guaranteed. Get some experience. I'm sure you can fly back and forth to see your spouse. If you take 6 months off right away, you cut into your "new grad" window. And competition will be more fierce as you will start to be an "old new grad" and you do not want to be in that position.
That is my advice. But, weigh all your options carefully. Only you will know what's right for you! Good luck.

What would be in your best interest? What is the job market like for new grads in the part of New York? He will then be deployed? Where? Would this mean another job search, another move etc? It seems like you would be the one making all the job sacrifices in this picture.
Getting experience as a new graduate is the foundation of your future career.
