new grad ADON

is it possible or advisable for new RN to obtain ADON position?

thanks

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

Nope...you are being thrown to the wolves and they are hungry for new meat!

Possible yes, advisable- absolutely not.

Please oh please tell me why you want this..... I am a nurse of 23 yrs and would NEVER recommend it. For one thing you are brand new nurse with no training as a floor nurse let alone a ADON. I would have trouble accepting a brand new grad as my ADON, they should be one whom has years of experience before walking in the door as my supervisor

Yeah...that.

Specializes in Geriatrics, Transplant, Education.

Possible, sure, but why why why would you want to risk your license like this? Run far, and run fast!

I'm a new grad on a Transitional Care Unit within a LTC facility, and I am having a hard enough time adjusting as a floor RN--couldn't imagine how it would be remotely possible or safe for me to do what my ADON does.

Specializes in LTC.

Not advisable at all, especially if you have no LTC experience.

Specializes in acute care and geriatric.

Work your way up- its much better than risking coming crashing down- depending on the facility and support and instruction you get- and your own talents and abilities- you can be fast tracked, but as a new grad even you have to admit that you have a lot yet to learn.
