Hello all, I'm in need of some nsg wisdom. I may be interviewing for a day position in a nearby CV ICU. I have
Also, whether I take the job or not, I need to know some good CV ICU books and resources. I have the ICU Book by Marino, and I'm enjoying that. Any suggestions?

Depending on the orientation and preceptorship offered, definitely don't turn it down for lack of experience. Just be sure you'll be adequately supported and not thrown in the deep end.
I love Cardiothoracic surgical nursing by Betsy Finkelmeier, but I think it's hard to get a hold of these days.

Hello from a long time CVSICU nurse. Take it if you are offered it . I would love to see a staff member come in that wants to do this for a career. 80% of the new staff we hire are just trying to get CVSICU on thier resume' so they can quit in a year and go for thier CRNA. (CVSICU background is a shu in). Experience in other ICU areas dosen't carry over to CVSICU as much as it does between the other units. I have a harder time orienting a RN with 10yrs ICU experience than I do orienting a nurse with 6mos on the floors and a willingness to learn. Welcome aboard!

I just started working in the CVCU. I absolutely love it! I worked in the ICU previously but this is where I want to be. I am fortunate enough to be working with some very knowledgeable and dedicated nurses who are also very supportive. I love that I am able to see the progress that patients make postop and I love the many opportunities to teach patients and their families. The cardiovascular system was my favorite to study in school. I always found it very fascinating.
