BSN hopefuls are anxiously awaiting the publication of the new BSN curriculum which will include changes to the current prerequisites at National University in La Jolla, CA. While they have released some details as to which classes will be required in the future and which classes are no longer a prerequisite- many questions remain.
Some students are currently awaiting a response to the submission of their application to Nursing Cohort 39. The new curriculum will be required of Nursing Cohort 40. The Cohort 39 applicants have just learned of the new requirements. Some of these students have spent months of effort and thousands of dollars fulfilling the former prerequisites, many of which are not useful to other university applications. Several of these classes will no longer be useful at National University with regards to their BSN program.
It is common that NU has approximately 170 applications for their cohorts yet only have 50 seats to offer. It remains uncertain however if NU plans on allowing the students continue on with the prerequisites that were published in the catalog at the time they began their course of study. This situation can prove to be very costly if for example four of the prerequisite classes that have already been completed were eliminated and four new ones were added. With the private pay (not military or government paid) tuition at 1512 per class this could end up costing the student 12,096 dollars. They will also be in a pinch to grab these classes, some of which are not yet in the schedule. These new prerequisites could take six months to a year to complete if the sections do not get added to the schedule soon.

Hi Ann Apple,
I have recently applied to National University's BSN program. The application deadline was in July and the program begins in October 2014. I applied on the very last day and dont have an advisor. I was wondering if you could share with me the classes that were added and taken away. Do you know when these changes went into affect? I assume the changes will affect all campuses, including the Los Angeles campus... Also, I heard that they are chaging the points system and taking out the number of attempts points, do you know if thats true? Thank you for all your help.
