Hello,
I'm new to this website and joined to get some advice. I started a new CNA job a month ago and its my first time working in a nursing home. I work in LTC and have about 9-12 residents to take care of during my shift. I work the morning shift and I am having a very hard time with time management and feel that I am taking away cares from residents because I am new and fall behind on time. I feel like I am running around like a chicken with my head cut off and cry during my shift. I'm at a breaking point but trying to be strong. The other CNA's don't really help me when I need help and ignore me. The nurses are helpful but I feel bad bothering them when the CNA's don't help me.I never felt so low and worry about getting written up for not having time to get all residents cares done. By the time I leave I am not even done with my cares or able to finish charting.. I end up staying to finish everything but don't. I only had 4 days of training before I was scheduled on my own and I had a break down because I didn't feel ready so they gave me more training. I still feel totally lost and ready to just quit. I LOVE taking care of the residents and have a passion helping people thats who I am. Can anyone give me some advice on what to do? Will things get better with time? I worry and stress I could lose my license. Auhhhh

Go easy on yourself! You will get faster with time as you learn the routine and the residents. Be kind and be safe! I found morning shift to be difficult when I worked as an aide because there was a huge rush to get vitals done and get everybody up and dressed and fed before rehab. I did much better on the evening shift because, although there were fewer aides, there was less of a race against the clock.

I worked as a cn for like 3 yrs before I decided to go to nursing school. I tried 7-3 but its not my thing. yes it is fast paced but I honestly feel like you cannot do everything properly for the resident because you are rushing. Whenever I get trained for the morning shift I see them cut corners and that's not my thing. so I just do 3-11 and 11-7 where I can make my routine and take my time. I don't have to cut corners and I know when I leave that every depends or diaper is dry and all my residents are washed up and comfortable. Im pretty damn good at what I do but I was ok to admit the morning shift was not right for me. so if I were you try the the evening shift and see how you like doing that. goodluck!!
