Hi everyone,
I moved to California from Canada a few months ago and was wodering if anyone could give me some advice on how to go about applying for the NCLEX-PN exam. How do I apply for the exam, who do I call, what are the requirements etc. I also recently gotten my work permit meaning I can finally work in the states. Would it be possible to apply for work even though I haven't gotten my license yet. I know in Canada they are allowed to hire you without you having your license but must get it within a certain time in order to continue working there. Also, can anyone recommend any good study guides to help me with the exam. I already have the Made Incredibly Easy NCLEX-PN study guide..what do you guys think about this book and is it any good? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome! I moved your post to the International Forum, the best place for finding out information on obtaining US licensure. Good luck to you!

California has separate boards for the RN and the LVN. You will need to apply for License by Examination to the board that handles the LVN license. Please be aware that they do things differently as far as licensure; you do not pay for the license until after you have taken and passed the NCLEX-PN exam, it takes about one month before you will even get the results, that is when you pay for the license.
You will need at least a temporary permit to be able to work without a license, and that requires that you meet the requirements of everything but have not taken the licensing exam. You cannot work in the medical field without at least a permit to practice. And this is going to take you several months, especially since you graduated from a foreign prgram, nothing is going to be immediate.
I only recommend the Saunder's Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-xx. That is my favorite hands down.
Hope that this helps.
(Unfortunately, you will not find much info here for the LVN license as it is not available to most foreign nurses.)
