hello everybody,:typing

i am currently going to school in san diego, california at a community college. and i was interested on transfering to las vegas to attend university of nevada, las vegas for their bsn program. my question is when i finish their program and sit for the nclex and finally get my license, will i be able to move back to california and use my license there. how does this whole thing work. i was worried if i go to school in nevada that i can only work in nevada. anyone please help me. thank you so much.:) :redbeathe:redbeathe

i definitely think you should try asking your counselor or nursing advisor at your college.

i know my answer isn't hopeful but i am sure you'll get a straight answer.

i think that nevada might be a bit stricter to accept nurses from other states work here. it seems that way on the nevada state board of nursing website. but then again i am not positive.

Yes, you can test for Neveda, purchase a California license.

Or, you can just test for the state of California and pay once.

For example, when I lived in Massachusetts and was accepted for a job in Connecticut, I tested for Connecticut in Massachusetts, so I wouldn't have to pay twice. I didn't even have to go to Connecticut to test.

You can get a license anywhere you want in the U.S. as long as you pass your NCLEX and pay for the application, fees, etc. Some states even offer compact priveladges, but Neveda and California are not one of them.

yes, you can go to school here and then get licensed in cali. almost a 3rd of my class was from cali and returned there after graduation. we've had grads get licensed in cali, texas, colorado, etc. to name a few. when you sit for the nclex it's just like the other poster said, you can take the test in any state you are living in and have it sent to the state you want licensed in. some of my friends are taking the test here in nevada and are having their results sent to cali because that's where they've put in their interim permit applications and want to work. btw i graduated from nevada state college. good luck, unlv has a good program.

Yes, you can go to school here and then get licensed in Cali. Almost a 3rd of my class was from Cali and returned there after graduation. Congrats on finishing your RN program and graduating. It must be really exciting. I'm getting really excitied to attend UNLV. Hopefully I get in. Haha. I'm planning on applying for Spring '09 or Summer '09 semester but not sure yet. :yeah::yeah::yeah:

just a quick question... isn't it easier to get accepted into nursing school there in cali? plus, you won't be charged out of state tuition if you just stay there? ... i've always thought that it would be easier to get into a nursing program there because there's lots of universities, state colleges, community colleges and private schools compared to nevada... are you just transferring 'coz you like it better in nevada? oh, and goodluck w/ unlv... i hear they're tough.... kris.

Well here in California it is true we have alot of colleges. But most RN nursing programs here are very impacted. The community colleges usually have a waiting list of about 2 years and thats for the Associates Degree. The BSN Programs here are very competitive and require alot of requirenments. You are competing with the best of the best. Students who get A's in Anatomy, Physio, Micro and other stuff. It is possible to get in But I would like to try for UNLV because it is not as competitive and I Love that thier BSN Program is only 16 months compared to the BSN Programs here in Cali. they are mostly 3 years. And private schools here are usually expensive like Kaplan College which is a 20 month program for your associates degree and costs $50,000 dollars and the program isn't accreditted. I always wanted my BSN and Las Vegas would be a great place to learn and play :)

And Las Vegas also needs Nurses and would seem like a great place to live.

doesn't unlv have a waiting list too?? ---->> that's what i've been hearing from people around here, but i never bothered to check. i know they've changed things around since 2006, i really don't know what's going on w/ them, but i know they have a waiting list. anyway, since, there's a lot less of nursing schools around here compared to cali. and the whole state of nevada just doesn't spend money on education as much as they should (in general), this includes their medical school up in reno by the way, and there's a lot more applications each year for nursing schools (or seems like it), i think it's harder to get in into nursing schools around here... when i was taking/finishing up my pre-reqs, a lot of people in my classes who had b's in a & p, micro... etc., still take them again the 2nd time around just to make the a's!! --- these are the usual competition... personally, i think "b's" are good enough for me, but the nursing schools around here seem to say "not good enough" more & more every year now! . . . . i'm keeping my fingers crossed, my wish for this year is just to get accepted @ csn for spring 2009. . . . i'm just hoping for a chance, these nursing schools are getting tougher and tougher to get in :nurse: ........ kris.

I feel like there isn't a waiting list there. My sister applied and got in for this fall no wait at all. And her grades weren't absolutely fantastic. Good luck there, she loves it ( and she is also from california just going to nursing school there )

I know this is over a year old post, but I hope you can answer me. What was your sister's grades and HESI score?
