Specialties Neurological

I have an interview at a neuro and stroke unit. This unit care for patients who are recovering from a stroke or who developed neurological diseases, and for patients post-neurosurgical intervention. Any advice? Thank you in advance.

Specializes in SICU, trauma, neuro.

Read up on current stroke protocols and common neurosurgical procedures. They may or may not ask you any neuro-specific knowledge questions (I can't remember ever having been asked "what do you know about ____?" myself). Then work in a question or two about these populations. This way you are demonstrating your interest in learning, even if you don't have experience in this area yet.

I would read up on how you would react as a nurse if you come in a room and you suspect your patient has had a stroke, what do you look for, what do you anticipate will be done for the patient, the different types of strokes, why its a time sensity situation. We talked a lot about that during my interview with Neuro, best of luck!

Also, what is important to assess post-op since you will on a post-neurosurgical floor

curious as to how your interview went or if you've heard anything. I've recently accepted a position on a stroke unit and would love to hear how your journey with it ends up.
