Nervous for Physical and TB Test????

Hi, well im currently working on all my prereqs for the Nursing Assistant program at my local vo tech college! I got my Tdap Shot, my menengitis shot, sent my background check, took CPR, only thing left is The Dreaded Physical and TB test!!! I am a little nervous that i might fail the physical because i have mild TMJ, wich causes a few balance issues, (barely noticable and hardly nothing)! My question is how strict are these physical exams for this? Is it just a "your good" get in, get out quick general kind of physical,or a detailed kind of physcal when the doctor makes you stand up and flex, run on a treadmill, draw blood, prostate exam and everything?? Another question is when the program ends in 6 weeks, and the facility hires me on, will they make me take another physical and another TB test, or is the one i took 6 weeks prior still valid for the whole year?

Thanks, and yes i am a male by the way lol!!!

Your tb and physical should be good. The only thing with the tb could be if you've had a 1 vs 2 step test. My physical was for a WI school and while it looked detailed, it was a simple in and out appt. Ours had crap like vag exam, which personally to me my lady parts has NOTHING to do with my ability to go to school. But all n all I did it with my yearly pap exam n that was it. That was a year ago and now the school has totally gotten rid of the physical requirement.

Totally agree with that!

my physical for the RN program consisted of BP, Pulse Ox, height, weight, Dr looking in my eyes, ears, throat, feeling glands, hitting my knees with the lil hammer LOL and asking me to stand up and "trying" to push me over with one finger..... NO vag exam! why on earth would they require that?? oh, and then the Dr asked me if I thought I was able to do the program, I said "yes" and he signed off on my physical.

I'm sure you will be fine :)

oh, and I think that most physicals are good for 90 days.

I didn't have to do any of that for my CNA class.... just a negative TB test prior to clinicals..... that's it!!

I have NO idea why they required it. They are severely inflexible so I didn't even bother to fight it. I've learned to pick my battles with the rn program.

I'm really nearsighted and I passed my physical, otherwise. The nurse practitioner did, however, ban me from driving until I got prescription glasses. :crying2: Physicals are not that intense!

You just need a heartbeat, that's all. It doesn't even need to be a regular one.

Ha Ha, that makes me feel better!!! lol

I'm worried about passing my physical. I have a heart condition that has been under control for nearly half my life. Do you think this will be an issue when it comes time to get my physical in order to start nursing school? I hope it won't affect my goal to become a nurse!

Laurenann...like I said; as long as you have a heartbeat! Seriously, nurses are not like fighter pilots. We don't have to be in tip top shape, just capable of completing daily living activities and free from active TB. Unless you are severely limited cause of your heart, you'll be fine.
