Nephrology Nurse Practioner

Published

Is anyone working as a Nephrology Nurse Practitioner. If so I'd be interested in how you got into the field and what program you took to get there.

Adult Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner and are there any programs "out there" that would specifically train you in this field. I thought the U of Penn had a program at one time.

Thanks for any responses.

I am a FNP and could have been a nephrology NP with two other nephrologists. It consisted of rounding on dialysis patients and doing clinic. There is no specialty. I just didn't want to make my first job so specialized. You only had to be a FNP.

What you could do is take your elective clinical time in nephrology.

Thanks for your response. I love hemodialysis and really would like to stay in a speciality because I don't really know anything else. I already know the physiology and all the meds and labs etc..

Can you recommend any particular programs on the East Coast?
