Hi all!!! Is anyone out there applying for the Nurse Education Loan Repayment for 2011..I came across the thread for 2010 but was just looking for some additional support...ahhhh!!!!!!!! Its so stressful!
Thanks!
My understanding is that it is budgeted into federal taxes for healthcare. Definitely a good government program that does not deserve to be cut. Nurses, social workers, teachers, counselor's, and other people who work for the people hold this country's head above water, and not just financially.
Just got off the phone with HRSA yet again. After having a pity party with him he said let me try to help. He asked for the last 4 of social and started looking things up in the computer. He said they have no record at all! I had a heart attack and then he said he looked in the wrong program. He asked what program we had applied for and when I told him he said the typical "unfortunately I can't get into that portion". I thought I was getting somewhere!!!!!!!!
He did say all applicants will be notified at the same time through postal mail and by September 30th. UGH!!!!!!!
Timnsara- my heart would've dropped to my stomach too. Especially since when I look at my old application, it says the nurse faculty program too! And according to the past blog a few pages back, it scared a few people that it said that. I am just religiously checking my email day after day. What else can we do!?

I'm not sure if it's a good idea to defer or not, but I did change my payment plan a while back so that I am basically only paying interest right now, but that will be up in December. I know that it is okay that I did that. Your lenders would probably be the only ones who would know even though I know that mine seemed completely confused when I had questions for them about HRSA. If I don't get HRSA I am going to consolidate my loans and spread them out over 25 years, on top of applying every year until I do get it. Just remember that if you do defer your student loans and considering the chance that you don't get HRSA (which I think you probably will) your interest will start accumulating very very quickly and anything you have paid off will quickly disappear. As long as you haven't defaulted on your student loans or have any liens against your name because of your student loans, I think it's okay though... but don't take my word for it.
