I would like advice for myself and on how to land a job fast. I am in the Houston Area and I have a family so I cannot relocate. I have applied in various hospital GN programs and was called only for one HR interview and then a panel interview. However the other hospitals sent rejection letters stating I did not meet their requirements. I have any applied at non GN jobs, and of course received rejection emails.
I have a 3.3 GPA and a HESI score of 1089. This is my second degree, my first was in Business Management and I have Home Health Administration experience as a patient care coordinator ( in another state). My classmates who are getting calls for multiple interviews and job offers from the same hospitals that I applied have ZERO work experience and are in their early 20's. I am in my mid 30's.. does not count against me?? ( MY resume shows when I got my first degree and I guess it ages me).
My question to you all;
1. How can I STAND OUT and at least get a call for an interview.. MY instructor has reviewed my resume and I have made the corrections that she suggested.
2. Do I not mention my first degree at all??
3. I am open to working in LTC ( although I would prefer a hospital setting to learn and hone my nursing assessment skills). So what facilities/ hospitals are hiring in the Houston area
4 . To recent grads ( from 2009) how long did it take you to get a job offer??. Also what did you do differently.
5. For nurses that did not get the hospital jobs first, where did you get your first job offer example clinic, LTC etc
Thanks a lot for your input and advice. On behalf of Dec 2013 New grads, I thank you in advance. ;-)
