Hi how is everyone doing? I am just curious to why the state board requires a SSN? I have borrowed some private loans as a student, do you think that they will be able to view them? Will they be able to tell about my residence for the past years? What is the whole purpose? Thanx for all of the help. I truly appreciate it!!

Each state has the right to make their rules and regulations and most require a ss# for licensure. Some don't require a ss# for initial licensure but may require it for renewal. It doesn't make sense to process applications that don't have the legal right to work in the US and hold up those that do. In reality it makes sense to have a ss# in order to receive your license because by having your license the state is stating that you have the knowledge to function as a nurse and therefore can work. In order for you to work here you need a ss#. If you don't have the legal right to work in the US then why have a license that will probably expire before you are authorized to work? You wil just be wasting time and money. Nevertheless if you want the license and don't have a ss# and the state doesn't require a ss# then that's your right.Good Luck
