Need Opinions from recent NCLEX takers..........

I just received my ATT today. I would like to take the NCLEX asap, but I do not feel comfortably ready to take it tomorrow, for example. Here's my dilemma: Next week I am completely free, other than needing to figure out childcare for my daughter. Then I leave for a week-long vacation from 6/17-6/24. On 6/26, I start full-time orientation at work, Mon-Fri, day shift. I am off of work the weekend of 7/1, but don't feel comfortable taking the exam after working the entire week prior. Then I work 7/3-7/4, 7/6, & 7/8-7/9. This is all my work has scheduled for orientation, as of this moment. I just tried getting ahold of my unit's educator, but there's no answer(she's the one who is creating my schedule).

So I'm wondering if anyone has any tips on when I should or shouldn't schedule my exam. Also, should I not work the day before the exam?

Thank you, ahead of time, for all your advice!!

I personally would feel more comfortable taking NCLEX while I was not working or preparing for a vacation.

Are there available NCLEX dates in your area as early as next week?

....honestly, you are the only one that can tell if you are ready or not. I scheduled mine as soon as I got my ATT and right after graduation. I knew i was ready to take it. Having read through the saunders book throughout my last semester and the CD for my hesi exit exam, I didn't have to review much but just went for kaplan. Took the exam right after kaplan and passed with 75 questions. If you've been studying since after graduation and feel pretty ready, it may be nice to schedule the exam before you start your work... The earlier you take it, the better BUT you have to be mentally ready. I took it and thanked my God I scheduled earlier because I don't think long procrastination of scheduling date would have helped me..or too much extra studying..One of my instructors told us that most people she knew that had to wait 3 more months after graduation to take Nclex, never really studied like they planned than if they had taken it like a month or so after graduation....

Oh well, goodluck and all the best!

I scheduled mine about 6 weeks out. That way I could study and get my head unclouded from all the school work. The week before I studied studied studied, and the day before I did absolutely nothing. I even spent the night at my little brother's (he's 36) house so I could have a good nights sleep without hearing "Mommy" in the middle of the night. I passed first time out.

I graduated back in Dec. have been working in a graduate nurse position since feb..6 12's in a row with 7 days off...... I just got my ATT (FINALLY!) mid March.... due to my work schedule, I waited till I had an entire 7 days to study HARD, and only did occasional tests/cds/ ati website tests.... now am hitting it HARD.. like studing 8 hr days... and taking breaks but I am sticking with my chosen date of April 29th..... you should JOIN ME on this date! Your schedule sounds like mine.... last days off i was in colorado and I live and work in Alaska..... i just want this behind me..... we made it thru school we can make it thru this... TAKE YOUR TIME ont he questions..... the strategy book helped me a LOT... decipher the question and the answers..... you can do this! Id get it over if I was in your shoes and I am and I am ..... 6 days counting... till i drive north to take the test... no studying the day before.... a good nights sleep in a hotel..... then TEST on the 29th...... im getting AMPED up for it..... hope and PRAY i pass...... but working on it and I wont let myself talk myself into rescheduling NO WAY......

I did see a (looked good) online review coorifice for 3 weeks for like $50.. not bad...... thought about doing it, then decided i have saunders and kaplan books here, and have used them since last semester of school and some ( not daily) for the last 2 months...... I also have been doing ATI's online..... now time to just GET IT DONE>..my graduate nurse position ends in may..... I want to be LEGAL RN with no looking back by my next job...... so wish me luck..... Im going for it.!!!!...

I would get it done before you start your job. Always much easier that way and less pressure.

If you start your job and do not pass, then you no longer have that job that you tried so hard to get.
