I would like to ask current NP's if they believe I was inappropriate in a Facebook post I sent in reference to a forum I belong to for one of my NP classes. I am in my second semester of NP school, but I could hold my tongue no more. We had a test today that is proctored and several students on FB were asking for advice on how to cram or how hard the pharmacology test was because they had not studied AT ALL. One student posted she had not unwrapped her pharm book from the plastic and we are three weeks into the semester.
I responded with my regards for those who studied and did not make at least a "B" that is required and offered some ways I prepared. After that I informed those students who did not make an effort that they are making a mockery of a profession that so many before them and many are currently trying to build and make better. I questioned why they were in school in first place and do they realize that they may KILL patients. Anyway, several people responded in a positive way, but many others took so much offense since I was not being supportive of everyone in the class. I am sorry, as I informed them I will support and help anyone who tries to help themselves. I will not support or respect anyone who does not respect the profession and the patients whom they may care for one day.
I know many of you are busy. I was just wondering if I should just keep my mouth shut or defend the profession that I want to join and continue to improve.

I would not be posting inflammatory comments. You never know when they can come back to bite you. Remember, if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. The only studying habits and nursing practice you can police is your own.

FB is a black hole - you never know who will read it, misinterpret it and/or use it against you. AN offers a little more anonymity but still we always advise people to be mindful that what is on the internet is public.
I would delete the post if I were you - pick your battles - this is probably not the hill you want to die on - best wishes in school.

I agree with the others. While I agree with your basic message ... I wouldn't be putting it out there on Facebook.

You have to realize that we're living in the age of 'butt hurt' and too many people are too sensitive. You were telling too much truth. For future reference, tell it a little more slant so that people can tolerate it Just tone it down, and hope that the ones who aren't studying flunk out.
I wish they were in my class though. I've been university faculty for about a year now. At least half of my tests are ESSAY questions, that way they can't BS through it.
Example: It'll be a five point in depth question about stroke and they have to answer with rationale and describe treatment algorithms, blah blah blah.

Sigh, this sounds amazing. You are probably putting out decent clinicians, imagine that?

My pharm class exams were all blue book...all essay, short answer, and drawing diagrams. It was a challenge but the teacher was amazing and I RETAINED the information!

Feels great to give people doses of reality but Its always safer to do it anonymously bc yeah people are wimps now adays and america has turned into a soft epicurian society where we arent allowed to say anything bad about anybody and everything is ok because we blame it on genetics and our parents or our boss, etc.
Hence why I ream people with the truth on anonymous forums so nobody knows who I am.
Another reason 2-4 years of military service should be required for everybody, so they learn to take criticism well. Usually people who do not take criticism well never make it far in life anyway so let them sink their own ship.
