Hello everyone,
I am a pre-nursing student with dreams of becoming a NICU nurse. I am only in my second quarter of pre-reqs, and I am beginning to feel a bit hopeless. I am taking an online statistics course and a general Biology class currently, and I'm letting the stress get to me. My personal life is a mess (going through a divorce) and still must work full-time to support myself as I take my pre-reqs. I am worried about not getting into nursing school, about how in the world I would pay for it if I did, (have a previous bachelor degree I still owe about 12k in loans on, a large monthly car payment, and living on my own expenses) and whether or not I'm too sensitive to be a nurse anyway.
I'm letting all these things worry me this quarter, so then I'm not putting as much effort as I need to be into my classes, and then the cycle starts all over again. Anyone have anything inspirational stories? I'd really appreciate it now. I know this is what I want to do, I'm just having a hard time seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

I know how you feel, I started nursing pre-reqs like 6 years ago. And then went through a stage not knowing if that was the right choice so I finished my AA. I too had a lot of family & personal drama crisis going on. So I took a job with a financial company and worked there for 2 years. It was a great job that paid almost 40k a year, but I wasn't happy. In Sept I left my job and went back to school to finish the last of my pre-reqs. I just turned in my application to one nursing school and now the wait begins and more applications to go.
So the point I think I was trying to make is the the road might be rough and a bumpy one, but if it is what you want you will do it. Just keep putting your mind to it. One thing I like to do is find inspirational quotes that motivate me. A couple of my favorites are " nothing in life is easy if it is worth having" this one helps because it reminds me that the good stuff isn't always easy. And another one that might help is from Benjamen Francklin " Never leave that till tomorrow which you can do today" Don't wait to go for your dreams and to find what you want. Do it now. You can do it!

Here is a story for inspiration..... To make a long story short, I had plans to have a certain kind of life with my son and myself. I worked jobs that paid well and I never had to worry about anything....Fast forward a few years and I "acquired" not one but 2 children from a family member. All the while I never stopped going to school. Sure there were semesters where I didn't attend school, but I just picked back up the next one...Eventually, down to just 1 child and my son, I moved to a new town away from family. No babysitting help, nothing. I continued to plug away at school by taking classes late at night, or online... fast forward a little more, and I was faced with 2 layoffs in 10 months.... then I finally decided I needed to focus on school and stop working for people that don't care about my family. I am the provider here, so no job was hard to deal with at first.. Thank god for unemployment..... While I am looking for work, I continue to go to school part time....All this hard work has gotten me accepted to a major university BSN program with a scholarship. I would have NEVER guessed this would happen to me....
If the rest of my post makes no sense .... please remember, no matter what decisions in life you make, if you make them with the right intentions and put god and family first, you will be successful....Just pick a pace that is comfortable for you, and only you and stick to it no matter what.....If I can do it you can....
Thank you both for your replies, those were just the type of stories I needed to hear!
