We have a friend who was an accident at a motorcycle race and had to be life-flighted to a nearby hospital. He has many issues with the worst being a fracture/break/still trying to figure it out of his T6.
I've advised people to not send flowers to the ICU but is there something that ICU nurses would love to have sent to them? This guy has tons of adoring friends and fans and is just about the nicest guy you'll ever meet. Everyone wants to do something (and they are - money is pouring in like crazy to buy more "air fence" to protect our riders at the track) ... but is there something we could all pitch in to give to the wonderful nurses and doctors who are taking care of him?
Any ideas welcome .... we know he is getting great care and would love to show our appreciation!
Thanks!

A nice card and some kind of snacks, especially chocolate :chuckle . It would be nice to get or make two of whatever you bring and designate one for dayshift and one for night shift. Nightshift is usually forgotten or the goodies are gone before they arrive.

The unit may have an education fund. If so, donations are always welcome. Staff can apply to get $$$ to attend conferences or inservices, or there may be educational info that the unit could use that would otherwise not be available to them.
Of course, chocolates could accompany a donation!

I second that - nurses usually eat just about anything. :)
And please acknowledge all shifts, nights included. They usually get left overs, and there's never anything left.
It's nice that you want to show your appreciation. Best wishes for your friend.

Food! ICU's (all nurses really) love food! If you want, choose something different other than chocolate. Like appetizer platters from a restuarant, or pasteries. Or a cake from a local bakery........but, if all else fails-chocolate will always work.
You all are awesome! I wasn't sure about the food in the ICU but that will probably be what we do since it sounds like it's permitted. He is in a hospital located in Northern California and unfortunately I'm in So Cal so it'll have to be something I can order online or over the phone. I'll start rounding up the donations and get this going!
Thanks so much for all of the ideas!
