Need help, research paper on nursing

I have to write a research paper on changing roles in nursing. I need to research as far back as when nurses were handmaidens, to Florence Nightingale, etc., as compared to today. No luck on SIRS. Any ideas where I could find such info would be wonderful. Thanks!!!

A Google search of 'changing roles in nursing' yields over 5.3 million hits. Everything on the web isn't 100% credible, but on the first couple of pages, there are some journal articles that seem pretty relevant.
