Hello Everyone!
New to this website, but as I am reading the posts I am finding the website very helpful!
Here is my situation
Finished a New Jersey Associate Nursing Degree program in January. Passed my NCLEX in march. SO I AM OFFICALLY A NURSE IN NEW JERSEY:)! As excited as I am, there are no jobs. I am very much willing to relocate(I have alot of close family and friends in Houston and Dallas) I really want to be a Nurse and work and enhance my skills, but I can not do that if I do not start working. I applied for a Houston license on friday. Not sure how long the process takes. I did not do an externship or internship in New Jersey. Any suggestions on where to apply to in houston, the types of positions to apply to (GN, internship, or regular full time positions) I am very much interested in a Med/Surg position. Help pls!
my questions:
Does houston hire RN from out of state?
Does houston hire new RN with no experience?
How long does it take to get endorsed from NJ to Texas?
Hospitals to apply to?
Types of positions to apply to?
Thanks so much for any help. I just want to be a Nurse. I am extremely hopeful that everything will work out well!:)

I am sorry you are having so much trouble getting started on your career. However, I would advise you NOT to relocate until you have a job lined up unless you have friends/family you can stay with during your job hunt. We have an over-abundance of new grads here in Houston also. Most urban hospitals limit their new grad hires to people who did clinicals in the facility.
You will have better luck with suburban and rural hospitals. There are several new hospitals opening up in the area very soon. They will undoubtedly limit hires to experienced nurses at first, but that should open up positions 'upstream' in the hospitals they're leaving.
LOL - I love it when you said you are applying for a "Houston license". We (Houston natives) like to think we are a world apart, but we haven't achieved statehood status yet. Be sure you know what you're getting into. Houston is probably a very different environment from what you are used to.
Thanks for the information! I've visited houston a couple times and enjoyed myself and it is different, but different can be good! LOL. I mean Texas license! Again thanks for the information. I will consider the suburban and rural hospitals as well.
Have a good day!
