Need Help. Need An Opportunity!!!

I recently transfered to Lehman College from Bronx Community College in hopes of becoming a RN and have completed all of my core prerequisites, however I could not seem to get into either nursing programs due to a long waiting list and a 2.4 GPA. What would be my best course of action to attain my goal of becoming an RN. Is it possible that i can be accepted by an entry level college (in the state of New York) that gives a BSN in nursing with my current GPA? or should I pursue becoming a LPN and make the transition from that point on?, would that decision be easier? and if i was to take the route of becoming an LPN, are there any suggestions on how I would start this process?

I don't know anything about NY, but if I were you, I'd probably retake some classes in order to get your GPA a bit higher. For most schools, you'll probably need at least a 3.0. In the mean time, keep applying to schools, RN and LPN, and see what happens! Best of luck!

Thank you for the advice, but Bronx Community would not allow me to retake the courses that brought my GPA down to a 2.4, due to the fact that they only allow you to retake courses in which you receive failing grades. Therefore 1 bad semester full of D's seemed to have left me with little to no options.

Yeah, most CUNY schools will not allow you to repeat courses if you received a passing grade. I would ask if you re-applied if you would then be able to repeat those courses. CUNY is notorious for competitive nursing programs. They have limited seats, and over 300 students applying. Maybe what you can do is attend VEEB for the LPN program; and then transition. It is a hard choice, though. Also, I am hearing that those that are attending 4 year nursing programs to achieve their Bachelor's are not as competitive.

Thanks for the reply, but that school is out of my price range and too far. I heard that BOCES may be a good option. Do you know anything about that school, or any other lpn schools that are in the bronx, manhattan, or westchester areas?

I know nothing about the NY schools either. Try the NY forum (https://allnurses.com/forums/f164/) as more people over there would probably know answers to your specific questions.

Good luck to you!

LaGuardia Community College (Long Island City, Queens), Medgar Evers (Brooklyn), Bronx Community College all offer LPN programs. Not sure about Manhattan or Westchester. They are still highly competitve, however, but, maybe you can repeat the courses that you had lower grades in, and transfer over the rest. Good luck!
