Need help with lpn med surge

Can anyone give me any tips to do better in this class? It's really difficult to me. I do the readings, study the study guides, practice nclex questions in my Saunder's nclex guide but it's not working for me. I didn't do well on my first exam and I just took my second exam and it was hard. I've been studying like crazy for 2 weeks and I don't feel it was worth it. This class is not memorization, it's about signs and symptoms and pathophysiology and applying it to questions. Also, my teacher doesn't tell us what the math is going to be on which is 3 questions on the test so that's like 6 points off my test right there. She doesn't teach anything math related. My other fundamentals class is going well since it's just memorization and slightly easier nclex questions. This med surge class is hell and I don't know what I need to make my studying efficient.

The way I studied for Med-Surg was by reading the entire chapter and making flashcards. That was very time consuming and I know everyone has different ways of studying, but that worked best for me. I used all the resources I had for additional reference and focused a lot on what I had the hardest time with. I did that in all my classes and successfully passed them. Best of luck to you!

I looked up mnemonics online as well as videos on youtube. Anything that made the signs and symptoms easier to remember. As for the critical thinking questions you have to know how the body works and what the disease process is to figure those out. So if you don't have some info on how the body works from A&P I would go back and review that system while learning the disease process.

I always wrote out the patho, s&s, and treatment. Also meds too that went with them. If you know the patho, you will know what to do for the client, helps a lot! Just key points, don't write out all the fluff. Your brain can only soak so much (at least mine is like that! Lol)
