Need HELP looking for an employer

Hi! I just passed the NCLEX exam. I also passed the CGFNS and IELTS.

Do you know of any hospital in NY that petitions foreign nurses? I just need an adjustment of status from tourist to immigrant.

I am not sure. If you passed the NCLEX then can't you apply for any nursing position? Where in NY are you? Have you thought of an agency that would sponser you? I think White Glove does. Do you have nursing experience?

Foreign nurses can't just apply for a nursing position in the USA. Even w/NCLEX, there are a lot of hoops and paperwork to go through. Changing from tourist to being permitted to work here is difficult. There is also retrogression going on and there are many foreign nurses in a holding situation, even those that have passed the NCLEX and that have sponsors.

Espeially for the Philippines, because there are such a large number of nurses trying to immigrate from there.

The OP needs to change the title of the post, including her non-citizen status - most people that currently click on it will not be savvy to the special difficulties and hurdles that non-citizen nurses face. S/he may also wish to review the information in the other forums such as the International Forum that gives data on immigration.

Suzanne and Lawrence that post there and mediate could probably give this most accurate information.

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Please see your post in the International forum

You can not at the moment change your tourist visa to green card, there are no visas to adjust and no idea when things will change

Hey Kkaatt Congrats!

I'm not sure about NY, but what sticks in my mind is the Filipina nurses that are now involved in a law suit against their NY employer and sponsor because they had to walk out d/t dangerous patient staffing issues.

Be very careful before you accept any sponsors and choose a hospital that understands where you are coming from and what you know. American culture is not the same and nursing is...well we tend to eat our young. That being said.

An example of a hospital that has worked hard at creating a positive environment for foreign nurses is Sinai Hospital of Baltimore. They have brought in more that 240 nurses. There are special classes and a dedicated unit for orientation, prior to being assigned to the unit that hired you. It is run by nurses from the Philippines that have worked in US for a while. There is a sub-culture in the hospital that is accepted and valued amoung all the nurses and staff docs, and a least when I was there you were allowed to speak Tagalong as long as you weren't in a patient area.

Good luck and :welcome:.
