Need all the help I can get

Published

Hello all,

I am a new LVN grad in So Cal. I received my license last July, over a year ago, and to this day after 3 interviews and so much hard work, have not found a job. I am almost considering going back to what I did prior to LVN school. It really upsets me that the market is so tough for LVNs. And although I have got advice to apply at SNFs and Nursing homes, I do not get responses from them as well. For all you LVN and RN's out there who have had the same struggle, please give me advice on what I can do. Anything recommendations and advice would be so helpful. FYI, I love nursing, I am completely dedicated to helping others and this is not just a "paycheck" for me. PLEASE HELP!!

Have you thought about going back to school for your RN?

Specializes in school nursing, home health, geriactrics, Tele,ICU.

try home health you can usually get hired if u had license for 1 year, also flu clinics are about to start soon. i went through same thing

Yes I will be enrolling in an RN program after finishing my prerequisites. But I would love the experience. Home health requires 1 year of acute experience. I'm trying really hard.

I got my LVN license 5/2011 & I have been working since 7/2011. I have literally busted my a$$ calling, emailing and hunting down a job. I am working for a nurse registry & it is just part time for now but it's better than nothing. I also have another part time gig starting in a few weeks. The one piece of advice I can give you is too look everywhere. I have a password & id for just about every facility you can think of. If this is what you want than there is no giving up. Keep trying & look beyond your zip code. Best of luck to you. :heartbeat

I agree with pink nurse...You must look beyond your zipcode and be willing to relocate a smaller, more rural community if you expect to work. The cities are flooded with new graduates and they graduate all year long, so your chances are pretty slim unless you "know" someone or have a relative working at a facility. I graduated 2 years ago in San Jose, Ca and the first thing I did was move to a rural community and within a month of getting my license, I had several job offers and have not been out of work since.

I got my license earlier this year & finally found a job at a LTC facility nearby. I was job searching every single day for 3-4 months & dedicated hours & hours applying everywhere. After getting no responses from applying online. I researched and compiled a list of all the LTC facilities within a 50 mile radius & called every single one of them to see if they were hiring. Out of the 90+ facilities I called, only 3 were hiring. I went to those 3 facilities, picked up an application, and turned it in the very next day. Out of 3 places, 2 called back & I was able to get interviews. I got an offer & will start working next week at one of them.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is don't give up. Keep searching & apply in person (if able to) & try to get a number for HR because even if they don't call you back, you can always call back after a week & ask the current status of your application. They will definitely look into your application because it shows interest in the job you are applying for.

...& since you had 3 interviews already..how did they go? You can always call a few days after an interview & also ask for your status. Before I went for my interview, I made sure to go over questions with my mom, so, when the interview came, I had almost an answer to every question they were asking.

good luck on your job search! You'll get a job soon, just hang in there.
