Need good resources for emergency department.

Published

I have recently taken a job within the emergency department as an NP. Does anyone know of some good resources for typical conditions seen in the ED. I have the usual (Epocrates, Medscape, etc). Just wondering if anyone knows of any other portable resources, particularly treatment guidelines or protocols for common conditions. Would also be interested in hearing from those working in an ED setting and what everyone else is utilizing.

Thanks.

Detroit Receiving Hospital has a good app

Pedi Stat and Pedi-doser apps for peds

Lab Values app

Eye test app (kinda cool but should be done prior to you seeing the pt)

Immunizations app

NIHSS stroke score app

Growth chart app

And then pick up the free Skyscape app and I have the following in them:

Medical Bag - general issues like ETOH, alternative meds

ABX Guide

Anticoagulation advisor

Archimedes

Asthma guide

Drugs in Renal Failure

Med Stream which includes both Med Watch and the newest CDC Guidelines

NP Children - just a general overview

Peds Recall

Hope this helps. After you've been doing this a few years, you get a real good idea of the common meds to prescribe (get yourself a laundry list of favorites and don't vary too much).
