Need some encouragement

Published

Hey Nurses and Students. this past monday i was "officially failed out of the nursing program" (those were the exact words of my instructor). i had to make an 88 on my last test for Med-Surg II, but instead i made an 87 which put my test average at a 76.4 (you need a 77 test average to take the final, (which was 2 days later!) i was so distraught and sad, and dissappointed in myself, because i had never been on the edge like that before. it felt even horrible, because i was due to graduate in 3 1/2 months!! so, now i have to come back in June and finish with the other class that finishes up in December of this year. has this happened to anyone else> that you didn't make it your first time around? any encouraging words would be so helpful!!!

First of all let me tell you that it is a reason that happened. You mighn not think it but you will look back on it and realize it only helped you in the end. Don't be disappointed in yourself. You should be proud of yourself for taking the chance and enrolling in nursing school. As a recent grad, I understand what you are going through. You will be be fine.

This same thing has happened to several students at my NS.

Back up, regroup, and strive a little harder for the grades you need next time around.

You CAN do this! If you want it badly enough, you WILL do this!

Best of luck to you.

I have worked with plenty of nurses who "failed out" of their programs the first time and had to go back and repeat semesters.

They are still great nurses today, it just took them a little longer to finish their programs.

The important thing here is that you do go back and finish.

I don't know anyone who regretted going back and trying again, but I know a good share of people who got disgusted or distracted and just never went back and now regret not going back because they are now working for CNA and unit clerk wages when they could have been nurses if they would have stuck it out.

Thank you so much for all your kind words. i will take them and run with them:) i've already started to look at the situation in a different, positive way.

Renee, I failed my A&P my first go round, and in doing so, had to repeat it. I chose to repeat everything that first semester. I thought long and hard about just quitting the program altogether, kinda took a real big hit to my ego. I talked to one of my teachers before making that decision. She was someone I trusted and had a great deal of respect for. She encouraged me to come back, and not to let my pride get in the way. That was 11 years ago, and I never regreated that decision. You too will make it. Might make more sense this time around. You have made it this far, keep it up. Good luck.

Renee, I failed with 2 points short on my final for the RN. I also had a talk with my teachers and here I am doing it all over again. Past my first exam with a much higher score than I did the first time around. So stick inthere and do it again. It will be a little bit easier because you know already what to expect. You made it this far, so finish it up. Good luck

thank you thank you thank you!

Almost the same thing happened to me. I was going through some major turmoil at home and i turned in 2 late care plans and was failed for clinals in maternity nusing. I was still allowed to finish the program including leadership but i had to go back this quarter and redo the clinicals. i finally finished last friday. I was really upset at first but the time went by really quickly. It wasnt fun going back with people I didnt know but everyone was friendly. You just have to keep ur hope up. Now i think maybe i needed that time in between to sort things out. i know at the end of the program we get so stressed out! when you go back you will have had that time in between and you can start things fresh.

Hi Renee,

I just finished last month and believe me I didn't think I was going to make it. I had tons of things going on in my life I was really sick and wasn't able to go to the doctor because I was in school 24/7. I also was on the edge of being kicked out of school for a mishap with a pt on clinicals so believe me I know how you feel. Just go back work, study harder and you'll get through it. God knows exactly what's happening and actually if this was something he didn't want you to do you wouldn't have even passed the entrance test to get into your lvn program so keep your head up and put your everything into this, I know you want it bad and with that drive and the determenation to never give up you'll get to be the nurse you want to be. think of it like this it's only a year that's pratically nothing to be given the treasured title as a "Nurse".

My heart bleeds for you, believe me! I had a friend that this happened to. SHe was in the RN program, and didn't fail a nursing course, but had to take Anatomy at the same time, and failed that class. She and I were devastated, but she went right back the next semester, and got a B+ in anatomy, just graduated in November, and just got her RN license two weeks ago. Sometimes, there is a reason for the madness. Put your head up high and do it again. (((Hugs to you))

I did that . almost failed Peds dropped out , came back at the begining of peds again and passed. then went on to finish. wonder what happened to that Joy?
