i need some advice, my wife is a new grad and has been working these past 6 months in ltc. she recently applied for a job at a hospital within the same company / different facilities. so she will be transferring within the company. the manager of the new job offer my wife the job after the interview, however she said they do not get involved with the money aspect and that hr would be calling my wife to go over what her pay would be. the new manager also said my wife should go ahead and give her current manager notice that she plans to leave, she would be giving 3 weeks notice.
i’m not soo sure it’s a good idea to give notice for your old job before you even have discussed the pay rate at the new job. if we wait, we risk my wife’s current manager finding out from hr or when they do references and i feel that wont look good for my wife.
i don’t believe there is going to be room for negotiation in the pay since my wife is more or less a new grad, however i don’t want my wife to give notice only to get a very low offer from hr for the other job.
what would you all do in this situation?

Personally I would politely insist on a written offer.
