I need some advice...
A little background info... I currently work in a psychiatric hospital but have made the decision to go back to working in med/surge. I like psych OK, but I'm feeling rather bored and unfullfilled and want to go back to using my hands-on skills and interacting with patients a bit more.
All of that said... there is a community hospital that I just finished interviewing for, and I believe that they are getting ready to offer me a job. I however am having second thoughts about wanting to work there. There is another hospital that I'm kinda thinking I would rather work at; actually it's the hospital that I worked for for seven years before going to the psych hospital.
So... what do I do??? How do I graciously tell the hospital offering me a job that I would like to take a couple of days to think about it??
And, as for the other hospital, that I think I would rather work at... I am thinking about calling the nurse recruiter and explaining my situation; that I really want to come back, that I have another hospital offering a job, that I would rather come and work there...
What should I do??? I've never had a job offer before that I had to actually say "Well, I need to think about it".

Listen, the way you have manages to make us understand your situation (I did, you have explained it very well) it is very good. You will just have to tell the prospective employer you need a couple of days to think about it, consider all aspects etc etc. He/She'll understand, it is a natural thing. Of course, don't take more than two days.
Good luck!

I think you are on the right track, simply explain to the offering facility that this is a big change for you and you need a few more days to think it over. They will be glad to give you that time with the shortage and all. Then promptly contact the facility you wish to work for and dont be shy about telling who you need to tell that you are wanting to come back.
THank you for your replies. I called the hospital back that day; turns out they actually wanted me to come in and interview for a different unit than the one I had previously interviewed with. So I went in and interviewed for this one unit and was very impressed with everything.. the unit, the people... and then later on that day I got the job offer, and so I decided to go ahead and accept. I think I will be happy there.

Sounds like a dream track to me! Tell me how to go about it. I just passed NCLEX yesterday (Sat) and am contemplating any kind of hospital work to get some skills. I just don't know how to go about it at this time of year. Would anyone take on a new grad w/ no experience? NOw?
thanks for any advice? I've actually posted as a separate thread in this same forum.

Chloe, I'm a new grad too, looking for my first job at this odd time. I took the summer off to move our family across country and study for the NCLEX. Also they don't have GN's here in NJ (odd, huh? have to pass boards before working). Anyway, I started looking August 1st and I have interviewed twice last week with one place (feel certain they will make an offer) and have another place next week. I have gotten a wide range of responses -- some can't be bothered since it's not new grad time, others are thrilled as can be to talk to me. Just figure that it will take longer than you think. I thought that I would have something lined up to start Sept. 1st and I don't think that's likely now. More like mid-Sept. Good luck.
If I could find Mid-Sept I'd be thrilled! How did you go about your search?
Nurse Recruiter?
Walk-in Cold call?
email resume and set appt ?
respond to a help-wanted?
Where's the nursing shortage when I need it?
