I'm needing advice on how to transition back into nursing. I graduated in St. Louis in Dec.99. I had unexpected family events and stayed home with my daughter. I had no employment upon graduating and now I am wanting to get back into nursing with goals of getting my RN. I would appreciate any advice on how to go about this.
Thank you,

We need a little more info. R u a LPN? Have u discussed/checked into refresher courses? Is license current? Did u call BON for info? Sorry, but there is no good way to give any advice until more info on this is given.
Yes, I'm an LPN. I kept the license current. I haven't looked into refresher courses yet. I called two local hospitals and I'm awaiting their calls and told them the situation. I'm hoping they will have refresher courses available. My major worry is since I didn't have employment since graduation that my license may be worthless? Thanks for your advice.

I read somewhere on here that Missouri Baptist (maybe Barnes in general) has a refresher course, but I don't know how it pertains if you didn't have any actual experience once you graduated.
Phone calls are going to be the best way to get the info you need here locally!
Best wishes!!

I would do my own review and take the job search approach as if you were a new grad just starting out. Just as if nothing happened. Look for new grad programs. You will probably find better luck in long term care facilities. When asked to explain your situation, just say that you took the time for your family and now you are ready to enter the work force. If it is at all possible, perhaps you can forestall the employment question by going for your RN now. Then you would be a new grad RN and your chances would be greater. Good luck.
