Hello all! I know there was a thread last week I think about Houston Community College and that it wasn't very good but I think that is the only option I have right now. My question is...I'm planning on taking AP2, Micro and Pharmacology before starting the clinicals. At HCC, I can take those all online but wanted to get your feedback on what you thought about that. Should I do the online courses or actually go in the classroom? I'm really nervous about Micro and Pharmacology. And then you guys also said that Hermione Sullivan who teaches Pharmacology at HCC is terrible so now I'm really scared!!!! Also, I'm taking Lifespan this summer and then I can take one class in the fall, one in the spring and then another one next summer. Any suggestions on what order to take them in? I know this is alot of questions but I trust you guys! Thanks!

I think the only one who can answer whether or not to take them online is you! :) What kind of learner are you? Have you taken other online classes, and did well? Do you have the self-discipline to take them online, or is a instructor-guided learning going to help you more?
Online courses are so much easier in terms of traveling, but may not be for everyone in terms of doing or learning the necessary material to do well in the class.
Good luck in your decision!

I've done both on-line and in-person classes and I think it's usually easier to attend class. It seems easier to sort out the info when you have a teacher in front of the room emphasizing what is important to them (and therefore more likely to be on the test). With on-line classes I tend to have a difficulty prioritizing the info and end up studying less efficiently. Of course, you're probably alot better at that than I am :).
Good luck on your decision.

I have a question: how do you take A&P online? What about the labs? Same goes for Micro. The labs were a big part of the class! Pharm I could see taking online, but the other two I think you might get short changed. But if you cannot take it in person, go for it.

You go in once a week for the labs for both AP2 and Micro.
Ok. That makes a lot more sense! Thanks for clarifying.

It takes a lot more commitment on your part to take online courses, but I took A&P1 online, and it was much easier for me. I get aggravated at professors falling behind the syllabus (like my A&P2 prof now, is ONLY 3 weeks behind!), and I like to study on my own. I have friends that get together for nursing exams and A&P exams - not me. Too much of what they say confuses me, or screws things up how they are "set" in my mind.
The lab portion was done online also - not too hard since it was mostly bones, muscles and nerves to memorize. When needed, there were CD's with virtual dissection of humans (very helpful) and animals. My PETA friends loved that! LOL
