Hi I need some advice, I am currently undergoing my Bachelor of Nursing (Pre-Registration) and so is my roomate, my roomate just found out they have Hepititis and we were looking at the nursing regulations and we are sure it says nurses with blood borne viruses which includes hepititis cannot perform exposure prone procedures. is it true nurses with blood borne viruses cannot administer anything with needles, or anything under the exposure prone list?
As you can imagine this has quite depressed my roomate that his duties may be restricted. any advice or clarification is greatly appreciated.

Never heard of such a thing in the US, but perhaps someone from Austrailia will come along and answer.
Good luck.

You'd have to check with your state board of nursing. I doubt it would be correct, as all nurses must use universal precautions anyhow.

i can't believe that this is true, in addition to the universal precautions, the patient frequently spill body stuff all over nurses but rarely will a nurse spill over patient in same manner

I am sure in the UK there are restrictions regarding anyone who is diagnosed with one of the heps. I don't think there is a problem unless it is classed as invassive
