I am making the commitment to pass this test sometime this year. Who else is certified by the NBCSN?

* And those of you who are certified, did you receive an increase in pay?

I did. Three years in. There was no bump in pay but at the time it made a difference to my principal, who was all about going for certification. So that alone bought me street cred, but the cost wasn't compensated.

Although my last boss couldn't have cared less, my new boss is herself an NCSN and encourages all of us to do so. Did the certification put me ahead as I tried to get this job? Maybe.

GOOD LUCK!!! Don't do what I did. I set the test  date for June but pushed it back to July because I didn't have a good study plan. Work a little each week. Don't wait for summer break.

I passed certification a few years back.  My pay bumped a good bit 🙂

I am not. I am working on my BSN, so until I finish that, I can't. I will say that I am in a rural district. My pay will not increase. It is a small school, and small county. I am not positive I will get certified, I really don't know how long I want to be a school nurse. If I wanted to keep doing it, I may, and move districts. I think it is a good thing to have!

I'm not.  I'd like to be... but I'm currently still paying off my ADN, so it will be awhile before I can consider even getting my BSN.  I would not get a pay bump for either getting my BSN or my certification, but I still would like to do it.  Does anyone know if there is any way around the BSN requirement for certification?  Like taking school nurse work experience into consideration?

I'm certified. No change in pay, but it allows nurses to forego a master's degree to stay in the public schools past an initial five year period.

As such, the exam fee was the best spent money I've parted with in a long time...
