NCLEX a year after graduation and PASSED!!!

Published

Before I took the NCLEX I said that once i took it I would come back on this forum and give my testimony/share my experience. I graduated nursing school last year and decided to go to graduate school right after to pursue a degree in Medical Anthropology (my second love). I postponed taking the NCLEX since I had started graduate classes before I even graduated. Honestly I really didn't even want to do the NCLEX because nursing school had burned me out. Late last year, in the midst of taking a full load of graduate classes I decided that I wanted to do the NCLEX, mind you I had been 6 months+ out of school and had not been reviewing. I knew the journey would be hard but I decided that I wanted to get my license and eventually become a nurse anthropologist. I started studying in October, literally rereading my med-surg ATI book and using the Kaplan and NCSBN online questions. It was very rough and discouraging in the beginning because it felt like I was doing senior year of nursing school all over again but this time it was by myself. I did ALL the questions in the Kaplan question bank (did them twice actually) and I went through all the lessons in the NCSBN NCLEX review doing 80% of the questions in the question bank. To gauge how well I was doing on the question trainers I would come to this blog and look to see how I was doing by comparing my scores to other peoples (it was a big help). My scores for question trainers 1-7 and the readiness were: Q1 61.3, Q2 64, Q3 55, Q4 64, Q5 62.7, Q6 64.5, Q7 60.8, Readiness 60. My scores were not amazing but like everyone always says ALWAYS read all your rationales. The NCSBN NCLEX review I think is also a good investment because it really solidifies your knowledge base. I took my test on July 2nd. At that point I wasn't nervous since the test had been a long time coming. My computer shut off at 135 and it was the worst feeling I've ever had, I was sure I had failed. But thank the Lord, I am happy to say I passed and I am now an RN. I just want to tell anyone out there who is feeling discouraged that YOU CAN DO IT!!! Just have faith!

Congratulations to you!!!! I'm happy to read this now, for I take my exam tomorrow and am extremely nervous

I know the feeling. I couldn't calm my mind but honestly just try and calm your mind and relax and think positive. You have studied for it and you know you stuff. Good luck!! YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Thank you!!! I will try to calm down, the possibility of failing is super scary!

No problem. Yes it is but you can always do it again (even though i know that is NOT what you want to hear or do). Sending prayers up for you.
