NCLEX tutor suggestions

Published

Just failed NCLEX.. upsetting and confusing, especially since i was pretty sure i gonna pass with my answers.. oh (. Anyway, now i think i should probably invest even more (nclex is pretty expensive test to prepare and take) and find a good nclex private tutor in NY who could lead me through. Any advise? Thank you much!

I really don't think the NCLEX exam is something you can get tutoring for especially since there are so many topics that are covered and no one really knows what type of questions they will be hit with, only the general categories that are usually covered on the exam. It's basically an "either you know it or you don't" type of exam and whatever you don't know, you have to take an educated guess. What you can do is take a test taking strategy courses such as Kaplan, Hurst Review, NCSBN's Review course, etc.

You should concentrate on your weak areas and study those, so that next time you will have a better understanding of them and know what to do on the exam. There are also several great books out that not only cover topics but the strategic ways in which to answer particular types of questions. You can check out books such as Lippincott Q&A Review for NCLEX-RN, NCLEX-RN Content Review Guide by Kaplan, Saunders Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN Examination, etc.

However, I don't think you should waste time or money getting a private tutor for NCLEX.

Thank you for your suggestion. I did take Kaplan and Fluer NCLEX review course as well. and i have Kaplan book which is the most confusing for me and their online course was very confusing and fast aslo. And Saunders book 2008 year though. not sure how big is a difference between different editions and if i should get a newer one. it just feels for me that no matter how much and hoe long i study books, the questions in am getting on nclex are completely different. Test taking strategies are good, even though there is only that many questions fitting those strategies and not for alternative questions for sure. And even those which fits the decision tree are often wrong. So all this is just sooooo discouraging :(. Anyway, thank you for taking your time to respond me.

How about concentrating on answering questions and reading the rationales. Reading the rationales will help you in what key words to look for

Maybe you just need a refresher course of core content that the NCLEX usually covers. I've only taken the NCLEX once... and failed and I really think it was because it's been almost a year since graduated and I should have reviewed more of the basic stuff and put it in scenario form... like bed positions for certain illnesses not just bed positions and where on the patient's chest would you listen for an mitral valve abnormality, etc. From the first test I know I need to really memorize ABG values and EKG patterns. It's one thing to know the material but another to able to locate it visually. Getting use to picture formats is one thing I know will help me on the next test. I have also bit the bullet and purchased Hurst Live Review. It's 3 days and then 2 wks access to online materials after the review. By the time I do that it will be about a week from the day I take the NCLEX for the 2nd time. Don't give up. You are smart or you would not have made it through nursing school. If you want to be a RN you WILL BE A RN. Have faith and be determined to make it happen. I believe you will do whatever you set your mind and heart to do. My dad used to sing a song that had the following statement in it, "Do what you do, do well". I'll be including you in my prayers. Good luck!
