NCLEX-RN in WA state?

Published

Is it true that if I take the NCLEX in WA state, I can transfer it to any other state? I also heard that if I take it in CA, then I would have to retake it if I want to work in WA. Would there be any fees to transfer to another state?

You only need to take the NCLEX one time; after that you can contact the BON in any other state and be licensed by endorsement. I took the test once and have been licensed in 5 states at different times. Also if you live in a compact state you can use your license in any of the states in the compact without going through the endorsement process. I believe CA is one of those states but check with the BON to be sure. And I was always told to keep your orifginal state license current so I have. Good luck.

CA is not a compact state, and compact licenses are only valid if one maintains legal residence in the state that they got it thru.

The NCLEX exam is a national exam and is not state specific. We have not had state specific exams in more than 20 years or so. One exam covers the entire US.

If you take and pass the NCLEX exam, those results are valid in all 50 states as well as US territories, but you will need to apply for licensure in the new state by using the License by Endorsement application. This is what is meant by reciprocity. The exam has it but licenses do not in the true sense of the word.

So does it mean if a person passed nclex in CA but has no SS# yet but wish to work in let's say ILLInois, he/she will just have to request the result of the exam forwarded to the ILLinois BOard of Nursing, in this case and meet all other requirements(LIKE enGLISH EXAM,CES report,etc..) of the state to be able to get a license?

Who should be contacted for the Nclex result? Is there a site that could explain this?

Please coRrect me if i'm misleading,,thanks:D
