Nclex-rn audio or dvd study guide

Published

I know this should be posted in the nclex forum, but there are only 14 people viewing as oppesed to 160 here in the general forum. Has anyone used audio or dvd format to study for the nclex. I would like to find something to use while I drive, workout, etc. Any advice whatsoever would be appreciated.

I found most of my audio CDs extremely helpful. The audio on lab values and renal failure were excellent for example. I utilized them on my 1 hour drive to school once a week.

I also used Saunder's book and studied everyday for about 1 month.

Do you recall which series you used?

I use kaplan's 23 audio review CDs..it came in a "kaplan in a box" prep for Nclex RN prep. I doubt if they still include the 23 audio CDs 'cos a friend bought it and the audio CDs were not included...Have been using it since my second semester in nursing school ...while driving. During ped/OB i would listen only to those, and also ones for mgt and medsurg depending on what disease process we do during that time. i have found it very helpful because i usually sing along with it and funny enough when i encounter any question on my tests, i cast my mind back and sing my way to the answer..for instance there was a unit question we had on endocrine that asked about what kussmaul respiration was, and I immediately cast my mind back to where the tape had said..."...these are very deep, rapid respirations.." and that was the answer...and many more..

For DVD, I use medspub review essentials for Nclex RN video series, 16 tapes(comes in DVD too)...main purpose is just to have an idea of key areas to focus on each disease process and these have been helpful to me too as regards what Nclex is looking for, what type of questions you are expected to see in each disease process and where to focus on..which is what i think i need at this point..

I would be taking Nclex by june ' 06 and would tell how helpful these were by then, but for now, all i can say is that they have been extremely helpful as far as passing my unit exams comfortably and moving to the next class..hope this helps

Thanks a lot for the information. I thought it was funny that you said you sing your way to the answers, because I do that now on exams. I guess that's what happens when you come from a musical family. I looked at the Kaplan website and they don't seem to have any audio cds, but meds publishing does.

By the way, I like your sing in name, that is one of my favorite scriptures.

mommyjoy, the product is called nclex in a box by kaplan (isbn 0x62410104). you can look at the features too .

the website is :

http://www.kaptest.com/catalog/templates/product.jhtml?prodid=kprod62410104&catid=200103&rcid=200062

i guess you have to copy it and paste on your browser ...

i just spoke to my friend and she told me she had to call them and they told her that this new edition( 2005/2006 edition), does not come with the audio cds. she said she called a number: 1800-kap-item and they told her they removed it in this edition because people were saying they preferred more of the computer cds than audio...

but the one i bought has all the features of this new edition too including the audio cds. i can't explain why they removed it from the product..

well, thanx for the compliment...that guides me throughout this nursing thing, that's one of my anchor scriptures..

however, no one in my family is into music...lol ....i usually cast my mind back to where a particular disease is mentioned on the cd and say it the way it was taped ..and that helps me a lot to remember and then walk my way to the answer..maybe because i listen to it over and over ...

all the best!

...sorry i forgot to give you this site also , it's for drexel university...a friend uses it and always recommends that to people. i use medspub's video tapes but don't know about their audio cds..so in addition to the website posted by bori-bsnrn, check out this site too and make your choice.

You are so awesome to give me all of this information. I have looked at the meds publishing stuff and it looks pretty good. I wish they were not so expensive. I feel like if I could get some CDs to listen to now it would really help. I am actually have 2 semesters before I graduate, but I feel like there are some basic things that I need to be continually refreshed on.

..Glad to be of help...
