I graduate nursing school this coming march. I am super worried becuase I have a municipal ordinance which I had to do community service for. I was not conviceted of a criminal charge , simply trespassing which I paid a fine for and had to do community service for. Will this hinder me becoming a nurse in the state of New Jersey? Im not sure how to go about filling out the application for the NCLEX

I don't think you will have any problem with taking the NCLEX examination. As far as getting your nursing license in New Jersey, you should check with your state board of nursing.
Thank you for that. However, on the app, it asks if ive been convicted of anything rather than motor vehicle violations... should I speak with someone at the board to claify what documents are needed when filling out the app? Last thing I want to do is fill it out incorrectly and be denied my chance to sit. its weighing on my conscience heavily.
I don't know what the "municipal ordinance" violation is . . . a misdemeanor? a citation? a fine only?
I don't think that the Board of Nursing will be of any help with the NCLEX application . . . just carefully read the instructions and you know what the "ordinance" violation is . . . if you were just cited and fined, I don't think that you need to mention anything . . if convicted in court, then you'll have to put it down, along with all requested documentation.
i was given a tresspassing violation which is one of their municipal ordinances in that township. i was given a fine.... that was all..

The NJ BON will most likely want the certified court records and a written explanation unless it has been more than 5 years since the charge; then you might be able to skip the written explanation. Generally any time you check the box "have you ever been convicted of ANYTHING other than a minor traffic violation" the BON wants to know about it. You should be able to take your NCLEX but the NJ BON will most likely want the above mentioned info before they will issue your license. You can call them in advance to find out what you need to do.

I just can't imagine that a trespassing fine that is simply assessed (rather than the trespasser going to court and/or being convicted) is what is meant by "have you ever been convicted of a crime?"
I realize you need to clarify the matter, but I would think that your mind could rest a little easier.

We are not allowed to give legal advice on this site. You will have to get your questions answered by the Board that you are attempting to get a license from. They are the only persons who are able to address your unique case. Good luck.

As per terms of service this is something that we can't advice on. I would suggest you contact your BON and discuss this with them.
