Things to do while awaiting NCLEX results

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

i've read lots of threads about everyone biting their nails to the quick, becoming a nervous wreck, and generally going nuts while waiting for various test result to come back.

let's think of some fun things to do to take your mind off worrying about how many ???s the computer stopped at, etc. :banghead:

-get reacquainted w/so and kids. :icon_hug:

-take the kids to a movie. or take yourself to a movie. see the one only you want to see. i highly recommend phantom of the opera. don't forget to buy popcorn. :melody: :yelclap:

-go shopping and buy yourself a sexy nightie and surprise your husband. :flowersfo

-knit/crochet an afghan. :yeahthat:

-file your income taxes. :barf02:

your turn!! :bowingpur :plonker2:

i had 205 questions and i can't stop thinking that i failed them

its a normal feeling.... ive been there, just pray to GOD... you can call pearsonvue if your BON have quick results...

Specializes in icu-general type.

for me, i've been waiting for 9 wks already since my nclex-rn exam.. and really since day 1 of the waiting period i prayed and prayed, asking for just one moment of fulfillment...but it seems that my prayers are not enough... maybe i still have to sacrifice some of what im experiencing right now.

or maybe i have lots of blessings already that this greatest dream i have will just have to wait for its right time to come..

you know, when i applied for this exam, it was just by chance...a chance i really didnt think would materialized, because i am a foreign nurse, educated and trained outside us. i self reviewed for months and at the same time worked as an icu nurse in a country not my own..

i am also a wife and a mother at the same time that sometimes because of the need to review i tend to forget my obligations as such..good my family supported me and understood that this chance nor opportunity given to me should not be wasted.

getting a us visa and going to us for the said exam was also by chance... i didnt expect that the us embassy in this country where i am right now would grant me a visa and having a low financial income would allow me to pursue my greatest dream...

inspite of this "chances" i was able to see america... as others are saying:"the land of honey". i took my exam with difficulty although my computer shut off at 100+

that time i knew i sacrificed a lot for my family especially for my children...i did this because of my childrens future...i told them that i'll do good in the exam and that a positive result of this would be my christmas, bday and anniversary gift to my family...

but waiting for 9 long depressing weeks and no result from the ca bon lowers my chances of attaining my greatest dream..of attaining my precious gift for my family...but deep inside as i wait for my results, i am hoping and still continously praying that one day... my waiting is over with a positive outcome...

Okay - It is the middle of winter in the NE -- and I take my exam Wed. Thank God I live where it only takes 2 days to get the results.

I am broke -- so that means no shopping --

But I came up with a list of indoor activities :-)

1) Give the dog a bath (2 years of dirt - he is STINKY!)

:lol2:

2) Pick a recipe out of my Cooking Light magazine - go to the store - buy the ingredients and make it.:D

3) Find an excercise program on TV - work out!!:pumpiron:

4) Stay AWAY from the internet -- too much "what if I didn't pass?":nono:

5) Stay AWAY from the calendar -- (You will say, "I know I failed -- so 45 days from now is ....."):nono:

6) Go to Borders - get a book - DO NOT GO TO THE NURSING SECTION!! -- buy a latte and read it in the store (only the cost of the latte!) Better yet - go to the library (more limited Nursing section - less temptation) find a book -- Drive to Starbucks.:smilecoffeeIlovecof

7) Spend $10 for a day pass at the local gym or "Y" -- spend ALL DAY there. (Better if they have a swimming pool for a mid-winter break!):smiletea2:

8) Visit the local Salvation Army/Cosignment store -- buy ONE thing that really catches your eye (convince husband that you REALLY needed one more purse!!):yeah:

9) If it is snowing - make a cup of hot chocolate - hold the dog/cat and listen to music -- say to self - "relax, hmmmm, relax, hmmm" -- give up trying to relax -- go on internet (break rule #4) check status of pass/fail. -- remind self that it takes 48 hours -- not 48 minutes -- for results to be posted - convince self that you failed -- go to calendar (break rule #5) Count out 45 days -- **Cry, wail, moan** Get yourself back together -- say *&%# the hot chocolate -- break out the wine bottle -- (you forget that your nursing instructor told you alcohol will NOT help you relax) -- get more tense -- go back on internet -- **Cry, wail, moan** Get out NCLEX books - TOTALLY convinced you will have to repeat exam. Study questions - attempt to look up questions you from exam.

Give up -- go outside and catch snowflakes with your tongue -- if enough snow - make a snowman -- throw snowballs at various objects (tree, car, dh, anyone who dares enter "YOUR" kingdom.)

Exhaust yourself - take a nap :)

:roll

I wish that by the time we get home from taking boards we can get our results. It was the hardest 48hrs ever. I tried to stay as busy as I could but every thought was filled with "what if's". But it was worth it to see that I passed this morning! I passed with no more than 90 questions.
