testing tomorrow

A nurse with shingles can take care of patiens, as long as the patient is not immunosuppresed. For instance If I was a nurse with shingles doing dressing changes on a patient with a deep laceration, that would be fine.

But, lets say I was a nurse with shingles who ws taking care of a patient with AIDS. That would be a no-no because they are immunosuppressed.

Shingles is caused by the chickenpox virus. The chickenpox virus remains in the system of someone after they have had the virus. The virus can show itself again if the persons immune system is run down or under extreme stress etc. So, you would not want to take care of anyone who has not been exposed to the virus or are immune suppressed.

Hope this makes sense.

quick q for anyone who's sure of the answer: in kaplan q trainer there's a q that says a staff member with shingles can take care of the patients n a diff q where it says they cannot take care of patients as they are immunosupressed.......can a nurse with shingles take care of patients?????

a nurse with shingles can also not treat a pregnent woman who has not had chicken pox, as well as an hiv/aids patient.
