Should I reschedule??

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hello. I am scheduled for June 14. I have about 2 weeks and 3 days.

I graduated in May but stopped studying at the beginning of April, when I passed the HESI exit exam with about a 950. I was sick of studying!!!

I took in person Hurst review May 11-13. I started to really study this Sunday. About 100 questions a day and reviewing Hurst videos.

Today I bought the Kaplan book that goes over strategies for test taking.

I am really nervous because if I dont pass, I will lose a scholarship and a job that I already have on a tele floor.

My scores for the Q banks on NCSBN are averaging a solild 70. They recommend 75

The first two Hurst Q reviews I got a 81 on the first one and 79 on the second. They recommend 85

Lippincott Passpoint (school recommeded) I score the highest mastery level of 8 in 75 questions. Level 4 is recommended.

Any advice? I normally cram but thinking about this exam gets me lightheaded with so much pressure.

I know if by chance I fail it wont be the end of the world though, and the earliest day I can reschedule is July 2.

HR wants me to call and let them know my exam date. Sorry for the wall of text!

I was told after I graduated by MANY nurses I work with to take NCLEX ASAP after graduation (if you don't know it after 2 years in school, there's not much point in cramming, right? Lol)

Anyhow...so I graduated May 7th, 2014. I received the ATT on May 13th, 2014. The earliest date I could take it was May 31st, 2014 and that's when I took it. All I studied was the Kaplan book that you are talking about and I passed with 75 questions. Honestly, after the horror of nursing school, NCLEX was the easiest test I had taken. Lol

Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

I graduated April 25th, Did the school required ATI review, then did the Hurst Review. I completed the entire Hurst review, did all 6 Q-Review quizzes I made 79, 83, 73, 75, 78, 85. I also did at least 50 Prep U questions a day. I took NCLEX on May 22 and passed in 75 questions.

I graduated Dec 12, 2014. With school finally being behind me and the holidays coming up, I didn't want to study at all. My test date was early Jan (8? 9? I can't remember now). Some days I did nothing. Other days I did *maybe* 50-75 questions -- Lippincott Prep U and ATI mainly. I had a few apps that I would do while waiting in line or at red lights. I never touched anything by Kaplan or Saunders or LaCharity. I passed in 75 questions.

I had very similar scores, didn't even get that good of results from Hurst, and passed in 75 questions. Keep your test date.

You have until 1 business day before the test to reschedule without penalty. My advice is to keep doing questions, then take a readiness test the day before the deadline to reschedule and go by that. I agree that the sooner the better, and I understand you that you need to tell HR a date, but I think it is too soon to know if you will be ready in two weeks and studying is stressful enough without making that decision now.

Tell HR that you are all set for July 2, but you are checking every day to see if there is a cancellation so you can take it sooner...that way if you take it June 14, you can just say a sooner opening came up.

You will never feel completely ready to take boards. No way no how. I did HURST review as well and only hit a score of 85 or higher once. I passed boards my first attempted.

Even though there are recommendations, your scores are good enough of a probability that you will pass the NCLEX.

At this point, do a mock NCLEX exam and see how well you do with the minimum questions and work to the max questions and review the questions and rationales that you missed if you need to at least get a feel of the exam; otherwise you are ready.
