Scheduled to take the NCLEX today but denied because of inappropriate identification???

Nursing Students NCLEX

So I couldn't find my wallet with my driver's license in it this morning. So I panicked and grabbed my passport which is yes, government issued, has my picture, name but did not have my signature, unbeknownst to me. When I presented my ID to the NLCEX lady (program coordinator I think she is called) she said this is not signed and therefore not valid. She said I can go home and get another form of ID within 30 minutes. So I went back to my seat and promptly took a black pen and signed my passport, which is something that should have been done a long time ago but alas was not, since I have never had to use it before. So I represented the passport which again, had my name, picture, and now my signature which should therefore make it valid for all intents and purposes. But the lady then said to me, "oh no, because you signed without me witnessing it, I still can't accept it". Thinking that's odd but still going along with what she was saying and trying to appease her, I said "okay, I'll put a strike though my signature and resign it in your presence so you can see." She then said "no, if you do that then your passport will become invalid and you will have to get another one." I sit down for a minute and tried Googling if this was true and found out according to multiple resources that it was not and tried to explain this to her but she was not having it. This was all taking place 15-20 minutes before the scheduled examination time mind you. So I'm basically **** out of luck because in my opinion this lady had a stick up her ass and did not like me for some reason and denied my entrance even though I had proper identification. I lost $200 today and now have to pay another $200, wait for my authorization email again which could take months and then finally reschedule a new test date. I am just beyond livid at my situation that I found myself in today and do not know want to do. I spoke to Pearson, there support line and they gave me case number and will talk to this lady tomorrow to gather more information but it sounds like they will not be able to do anything and the Nclex lady has the ultimate say in who gets to take the test regardless of whether you have proper identification or not. I also spoke to someone from NCSB who seemed much more helpful and told me to write a detailed email to him about what happened which I did and that he would try to resolve this issue for me tomorrow. So my fingers are crossed but I just cannot believe at the events that unfolded. If the verdict in my case does not go in my favor I honestly am thinking about contacting a lawyer.

I hope you are not driving around without your driver's license. That could land you in some serious trouble.

That's irrelevant and off-topic. I hitched a ride to the center though.

I also think this situation was unfortunate. I don't feel witnessing the signature would have made it any more valid than if you had brought the passport up with the signature in it already. Being that you sat down for a minute to sign it and re-presented it, it would have been obvious that you signed it and not the person next to you, whether she personally saw it or not. Suggesting for you to go home and bring out another form of ID instead of accepting the re-presented one seems like she was on some strange power trip. Personally I wouldn't have another form of ID that matched all requirements besides my driver's license and passport. Sorry for that happening! I would have been very upset as well.

Thank you so much for understanding. It really means a lot!

So to give an update. Pearson opened a case number but it was unfortunately shut and closed and I was told there is nothing further that can be done on their part. I asked for documentation stating that identification signature's need to be witnessed by the TA or that a strike-through a signature would invalidate an otherwise valid form of identification but they could not give me an answer and kept giving me the run around. They told me NCSBN has the ultimate decision regarding this manner and to contact them which I already have and hope to hear a response back within a few days. Hopefully they are lenient and understanding and offer some kind of recourse in this manner. I also tried to file formal complaint against the TA through Pearson but they informed me there is no way to do that which I find hard to believe.

In the off-chance that this manner is not resolved in my favor and I have to wait the 4 weeks for a new ATT email (I've already repaid the $200 through Pearson and re-registered for a new examination appointment), is there any possible way to speed the process up of getting the authorization? Maybe I can contact the New York State Board of Nursing and explain the situation to them?

Just got off the phone with the NY state board of nursing. They're going to give me my new authorization to test within 24 hours after explaining my situation to them.

Just got the email. Scheduled to take it this fri 8am. Wish me luck ladies and gents.

Pearson just issued me a $200 refund after NCSBN contacted them. Thank god I didn't listen to the people in this thread who thought the NCLEX lady was right and just following procedure.

What are two years old? There is no excuse for not having your things ready to go in the morning ,possibly prepared the night before. It is you lack of preparedness, accept it and learn never to do it again.Stop blaming the lady for not letting you in,you turned down the offer to go home and look for it.A passport is not always valid as ID in some cases lately that is why the ID in the future will be FEDERAL ID that you must validate with a utility bill and proof of current address besides the old options. You might end up like that kid that made a big stink about the SATS, having his name in every LAW textbook , a lifetime of embarrassment,...also great for your future employers to see what a mess you are when faced with difficult situations. My 2.5 cents.

Yeah, because that's why they offered me a refund, because I was unprepared like a little two year old who didn't have his things together? Grow up. Join the real world. Better yet, attain some reading comprehension skills and maybe you'll be able to understand.

No, he wasn't, because the passport wasn't signed.
