Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Anybody is taking NCELX in Nov? Let's get together and support each other to go through this. I am taking the test on NOv 19. Studying tips are welcome too.

@rebmem

GOOD luck..Will say a word of prayer for you

@ All others

I was doing pharamacology quest since yesterday and it feels like a train jst hit me and then a truck came by and hit me again and a cat came and scratched my face...seriously...These questions are impossible...Is it jst me or is everyone feeling the same way???....ohh yeah my urine just turned blue..what medication did i take????

I hear you about meds - just a guess, confirmed by other's observations:

drugs that require monitoring, and antidote drugs should be given precedence. as well, certain drug levels, like dig are critical.

One person posted somewhere that rather than studying by disease clusters, or drug type clusters, try thinking of them in terms of a list of drugs with the same side-effects, with the same types of monitoring. one person had but one drug question - narcan. it's a crap shoot, unless you have the thousand plus pages of saunders memorized. "getting lucky" to my mind, is when the questions you get are the type of nursing considerations that are no-brainers to you.

nyunrse:

Thanks, Nyunrse2b, I just signed up - After taking the diagnostic test, I get the feeling these are real nclex questions - after all, doesn't ncsbn write them in the first place?

Diahni

Hi guys! I took the diagnostic test when I signed up for this course about 3 weeks ago, my score was a 60% :uhoh3:.

Since then I have been doing the review and have just started doing the Q and A section at the end of the course. Scores so far have been okay. They have ranged from 55% - 90%. Im averaging about a 60%.

Hi Diahni!!! I would love to know how you did on your diagnostic test? How are you doing with your review? Do you like the review thus far?

Maria

Nyunrse: Great minds think alike! I got the same thing. But, yes, they do ring true, don't they? I had a very hard time getting the program to work until tech support told me I had to use explorer and not firefox. Going over the rationales is really good - I'm trying to dissect the question, i.e. why is this more important than that, etc. It helped more than once to transport myself to the bedside, so to speak - somehow the entire scenario brings up things I normally wouldn't think about. (A certain amount of answers would be obvious to anybody - you're not going to feed somebody immediately post op, stuff like that)

Side effects are especially annoying, there are so many of them. Just for fun (ha!) I went ahead and did a couple of quizes at the end of the unit and my score was predictably (and depressingly) consistent.

Along with the reality "smell check" of the questions, it's important to remember that these questions are coming from the horse's mouth! Almost everybody says Saunders is the best, but I'm impressed with this program enough to spring for the forty nine bucks for three weeks. What remains true is it's hard to study for it in the normal sense, isn't it? More than anything, it's a way of thinking that can be very slippery to grasp. One thing I am finding is it is patently not true that you should throw out what you know in real life, and concentrate on "Ivory Tower" nursing. When I'm not familiar with a particular issue, real life can come in handy. It's a mistake to totally dismiss intuition and past experiences. (i.e. spinach is not listed as an option, but there's romaine, which looks a lot like spinach, and it was the right answer about vitamin K.) 'nuther thing - any "I" statements is probably not therapeutic communication.

Grind on!

yeah i think thats what the avg is...i did a search here and found out that most people are 60 or above...i saw a post where sumone only used NCBSN 5 week course, had a 65% on their diagnostic, and scores ranging from 55-90% and passed the NCLEX with 75 questions....

I talked with an online tech person - he said to aim for seventy five percent. Stopping at 75 questions would spook me, so this is good to know!

Everybody responds to different kinds of instruction, and the ncbsn program seems to be a good fit for me. After doing a first couple of units, the time estimates are very conservative - it probably takes less time that the estimated 80 hours.
