NOTHING can prepare you for it..

  1. ...for the WAITING, that is. I remember thinking, there's no way I'm going to pay for quick results when I can see results for free on my BON's website (Ohio) within a few days. That was before I took the NCLEX-PN this past Friday.

When taking the test, I felt like I was doing fairly OK until the last 15 questions or so...then.... I don't know what happened... I felt like I was losing concentration big time.. besides that, I got hit with a LOT of questions on drugs I had never heard of, REALLY HARD prioritizing questions, and killer check alll that apply's. My answers to those last 15 or so agoinizing questions were literally wild guesses---I couldn't even narrow it down to 2 answers!! I would just pick the answer that sounded best, click it quickly and move on before I changed my mind! My brain felt so mushy when I left...

Of course that was just the beginning. I checked the BON website a million times with no luck. Then I did an allnurses.com search for Ohio results and found a thread that really made me worry. People from Ohio were saying they saw licensure status posted in as little as 24 hours!! WHY, oh why did I decide to test on a Friday?? So after seeing no results on Sat. or Sunday, I decided to wait till this morning (Monday) and try one more time. No luck. The Pearson page was just taunting me, saying results were available for a 7.95 fee. I couldn't take it anymore!! Now it seems such a small price to pay to see that lovely word, PASS!!!!

The instant I saw it, I said to myself, "of course you passed, you dummy!!"

It really is amazing the stress we put ourselves through, isn't it?

Thanks so much all!!! :roll :spin:

To those about to test or still waiting for results....... hang in there!!! For a while there, in the days leading up to NCLEX and after, I literally felt like I was getting ulcers from the stress I was allowing in. I didn't feel like I'd studied nearly enough (is there even an "enough"?), and I really wasn't in a great state of mind the night before. But I just tried to clear my head and relax the morning of the test. And it was SOO hard, but I forced myself to take my time, at least until I got close to 85 questions and started to doubt myself and rush a little. Just trust your nursing knowledge and judgment and know that you can do this!!

I, too, know what you mean about agonizing all weekend to see if you passed or not. I took mine this past Thursday with one of my classmates. They found out their results on Friday morning and there was no information on mine. Of course I figured I had failed since everything seemed like a blur on the test itself. When the computer shut off at 85 I was completely speechless to the point where I don't think I could speak for at least two hours! I checked the board of nursing again yesterday morning (for the 100th time) and still nothing. Thanks to my hubby and another classmate, I found out yesterday afternoon that I had passed! For some reason, my license number doesn't come up the way everyone else's did. I was so relieved and now the sickness and nausea has gone away. Waiting for five days was no picnic!! Congratulations to you and all of your hard work!!

For all those who have taken the NCLEX, would you say that your review class/review materials made you familiar with what to expect or was the exam totally different from what you studied for?

In my personal experience my review class/materials helped me prepare for the exam for the most part, but there were things on the test that I didn't know much about/or I just didn't recall right then. I just tried to make a best "guess" on those questions and hope that I answered them correctly...Some of the review books that I used on my own had the format as the test did so those helped me become familiar with the format of the test. I hope this helped...
