Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hi to all! Im new here.. and i heard a lot of good things about allnurses thats why as soon as my friends told me to sign up.. went home and signed up.

I have a question.. everybody could give me a good advice on what to do. Ive already failed nclex-rn 3 times and im still on the stage of thinking what is the best thing to do after failing (esp its 3 times already).. I used saunders and kaplan. When i asked my 5 closest friends on what is the best thing to do after.. 4 of them told me to try taking nclex-pn, just 1 of them told me to study more harder and try it again after 45 days. Im so worried now coz ive been not working for 1 year already and i feel so ashamed to myself and to my husband coz i feel that im not smart enough to pass this exam.

What are the difference of the questions of nclex-rn and pn?

is learningext in ncsbn website is good?

Please please everybodys opinion counts.. help me.. thank you all in advance!

In my opinion the only program that I have seen that is comparable to NCLEX questions is KAPLAN. I have almost every NCLEX book and I have tried almost every program. But I believe my problem is understanding some of the content. When I take my time and review the content area and understand the info I am doing better. At this point that is the only thing I can do!!! Someone posted in an earlier thread that the saunders NCLEX book breaksdown the information better than most books and I would definitely have to agree... Thanks soooooooooo much for all of the helpful tips I really appreciate it. You guys are truly AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi to you pagandeva2000! when my friends advised me to try nclex-pn im actually skeptical about it though i know that in their experiences they actually passed the nclex-pn after a week they knew they are failed in nclex-rn, thats a reason why i signed up here to know all of your opinions about this. Even i want to try nclex-pn im not sure if im going to pass maybe because of low esteem or i dont want to embarrassed myself coz my friends passed it.

Do you work while reviewing? Im sure im not alone on this kind of predicament. Im planning to take nclex-rn end of next month.. it depends on how my scores do, im hoping that learningext.com will help me on this. Im open to any review advice that you could give me.. Thank you.

I am an LPN that does not desire to become an RN, but that was by personal choice. It was my original intent to become an LPN because while I always wanted to be a nurse, I really didn't want to shoulder the responsibility of an RN, and I am happy with my choice, but you may not be. Really, the point that I was trying to make is that if you specifically went for RN, continue to make it your goal. Personally, I see nothing wrong with you taking NCLEX-PN to get out into the working world as a nurse. There are different levels of nursing that each can positively contribute to the care of the patients. We have RNs that specialize in critical care and ICU, emergency room, etc. They have to learn on the job or seek continuing education, but they do it. But, if you find that you are not satisfied as an LPN because that was not your original intent, you may eventually be disgruntled, and that is not good for you or the patients you are caring for. No matter what, continue to study, and I sincerely wish you well.

Hi there Lester25! I called kaplan to know if i have other option aside from paying less 25% of the amount i paid for nclex-rn complete review.. unfortunately none! then i asked if ill get SAME questions if i purchased the Q bank and Q trainer only.. then the customer service says "YES" also so that means its not worth it for me to pay that much if ill get same questions.

I dont mind taking the nclex-pn actually but the thing is I dont know the difference of the questions.. or the approach of the questions.. I AM SCARED really. The advantage of taking the nclex-pn is that if i passed i can work as a LPN. Trying to take nclex-rn next month is the ONLY i can do if i didnt take nclex-pn.. i dont have any choice!:o :o :o :scrying: :scrying: :sniff: :sniff:

Hi Paganda 2000,

Point well taken. However, I believe someone mentioned in the previous thread that you are conditioned to think one way as an RN and going for an LPN maybe somewhat confusing. For instance, RN can Teach, Evaluate and Assess and LPN is not responsible to do those task so it maybe somewhat confusing answering the questions. Nonetheless, you have to follow our own dreams and destiny's whatever that maybe. Now am I scared of taking my test again to? ABSOLUTELY but I know that I have to do it in order to start working as an RN. I refuse to let failure stop me and you should not let it stop you!!!!! Dont give up thats what we are all here for to encourage each other but more importantly, to gain knowledge...

I am glad I have my allthenurses.com buddys!!!

Hopeless,

Today was the best day of my life!!!!!! I just found out I passed on the 4th time it stopped at 265....

Hi Hopeless,

The first thing I would HIGHLY recommend is changing your screen name, I believe the way we see ourselves is VERY important and I know for a fact that you are not Hopeless...I know that a moderator would be able to help you...Please change it to Hopeful or something positive.

Second, do something different this time....the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again hoping to get a different result. Try Suzanne's plan on this website. Get someone to tutor you. Don't go back to the same old review materials and try to understand them on your own.

I know that you can pass this exam, but if money is tight and you are anxious to get out there and work there is NOTHING WRONG with working as an LPN while you continue to study for your RN. At least you will be practicing your skills and being a nurse.

Good luck and hang in there....Hopefull!!!

Hi Matilda,

Actually I did not use suzanne's plan.... I used the ATI CD's they were extremely helpfulllllllllll. This is how I did it...I would focus on one area ie "Neuro" review the neuro section then listen to the ATI CD on that section only. then I would review questions only in that area... The more I listened to the CD's and did questions the more I got right. I think by listening to the CD's I was able to retain more info.. But even the day going into the exam I was still nervous. One book I will tell you to get is the Lippincott but the Exam Cram is a must have believe me... Let me know if you need anything else. I know exactly what you are going through.
