Hi, everyone, I failed nclex three times in florida , according to Florida BON I have to take remedial expensive course , do clinicals again in order to retest again. I'm a mother of two toddlers and don't have money and time to do all that. I heard that i can take it in another state bur I don't know what are the requirements and what to do and have in order to take it out of state. Please help me If you know .. I'll appreciate it.

You replied to my post earlier and I don't know if you will get it so I will post here too.

I also failed 3 times in the state of FL. I took my 4th test with NY. NY's application process is very easy. Just go on NY BON website (or whatever state you want) and print out the application. For NY you have to submit your application, request your transcripts to be sent, take 2 small online tests (about 30 minutes each), and verify your LPN license if you have one. I believe the application is $143, the 2 tests are $20 and $25 each, and the license verification on Nursys is $30.

I passed my 1st try with NY. I got my license in 4 days on the NY BON. Now I am applying for my license in FL by endorsement. The application is ($110). Fingerprints ($78.50) and license verification ($30). It says it should take 2 weeks. I will let you know when I get it.

I know what its like trying to study with 2 little ones. My children are 4 years old and 2 years old. Good luck and don't give up!

I'm curious about this too..I've failed 3 times in Florida and looking to take it in Georgia. I've been told by several ppl to take it there. I'm starting to research the process also. Good Luck!!

Thank you so much about your information, it was very helpful. I read on Georgia BON that applicants should pass nclex within 3 years of graduation. I graduated in 2011 so i don't think they'll approve it. So New York is my only chance. Thanks

It might be helpful for you to know that the test in NY is the EXACT same test that is offered anywhere in the US. You are NOT taking a State-specific licensing exam, it is a national exam. One State is no easier or harder than ANY other State. If you failed three times and then passed on the fourth, it isn't because the State you traveled to had an easier exam. It's that you already tried this thing THREE TIMES prior.

And now a word about licensing: if you do not meet the requirements for the State you are seeking to endorse a new license to, you will not receive one. Depending on the State, you can get an endorsement with no difficulty....or much difficulty....or won't get one at all.

And finally, before anyone thinks it's a good idea to go to another State to evade the requirement of a maximum number of attempts at the competency exam.....don't you think it WOULD be a good idea to find out why you are failing repeatedly? Please remember, this exam only indicates a MINIMUM level of competency to practice as a nurse....not proficiency....so if you are repeatedly failing, you are doing something wrong. You are not understanding something....and need to.

In time, we will see every State having a maximum number of test attempts before requiring remediation, repeating coursework, or outright refusal to license. New York, while annoyingly behind on making this change, WILL make the change at some point and stop accepting those who wish to test five, six, umpteen times.

It's not about where you take your test, or how many times. It's about figuring out why you are not proving competency wherever you are now.

I wanted to update you. I received my FL license by endorsement a couple days ago. It took about a week from when they received my application till when my number appeared on the page. So now I am finally licensed in FL. Good luck to you. You can do it!

I'm so happy for you Amber , good luck in your RN career ! I applied in NY, sent application , required courses and fees but I don't know ,do I have to do fingerprints too? please let me know..

Well at least the NYS BoN is getting a lot of windfall in the form of application/licensing fees from people from other States.... :sarcastic:

No NY does not require fingerprints.

Amber did you go to NY to take the exam or did you test here in Florida. I hope I'm not bothering you with too many questions, Thanks

Hello, inela! I too, have failed NCLEX 3 times in FL. I feel incompetent and so defeated. I have never wanted something so bad in my whole life. Don't feel discouraged, because you are not alone! This test is a *****, and is meant to trip people up. I've studied so hard each time, and now, I don't even know how to begin studying. Is it true clinical time is required for taking the test again in FL? Has anyone here taken the remediation and if so, did it help? I feel so lost. :( I know I'll be a great nurse, I just have to get over this hurdle.

I failed my first test too! You are not alone! :) and i went on to pass it
