NCLEX October 2017

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hello fellow NCLEX takers ... I wanted to start a chat for everyone taking the NCLEX in October ... let's motivate each other. When you need a pick me upper let's check up on each other. What are you using to prepare for the NCLEX? What date in October are you taking the NCLEX? Are you taking NCLEX PN or NCLEX RN?

I'll start with me. My name is Nadia and I'll be taking the NCLEX PN on October 13th. This will be my fourth time to take the NCLEX ... the last time I took the NCLEX was in 2008. I had to take a required refresher course in Florida in order to be eligible to sit for the exam again ... I did that and also did clinical which I absolutely love because I didn't get the same experience when I was in school. I have been using Saunders, just recently completed the Hurst Live Review (which I absolutely loved) and I will be purchasing U World. I've learned so much in the past year and so motivated to start my career. I do work a full time and I am a Team Lead so I have a hectic day almost every singe day. I have no choice but to make time when I get off to study from 7pm until I get tired and that may be 11 pm or 12 am. If I'm too tired to look at the computer then I'll plug in my headset and listed to the Hurst audio and put it in my long term memory as they call it lol. Hoping to hear from others as I love reading this forum getting different ideas from other fellow nclex takers.

I'm taking NCLEX RN! I totally agree. This wait is terrible. I graduated in May and I am still waiting on my ATT.

Wow it definitely shouldn't take that long ... have you received eligibility from your BON already?

Nadia, do you know how many years allowed to be out of nursing school before having to take a refresher course. I've been out for 6 years and I live in Miami Florida.

Hey, I'm not sure about being out of nursing school. I know if you haven't worked in a clinical settings for 5 years plus or did not pass the NCLEX after 3 tries you are required to take a remedial course. Have you taken the NCLEX at all?

I'm not sure about Florida but in PA the retakes is unlimited and it doesn't require you to take remedial classes.

We got this ... I'm using the same material as you ... how do you like the Hurst videos?

I failed 8 times. Been doing incorrectly within these crazy attempts. Here's how i did wrong.

1. Not knowing the material fully. Especially during nursing class.

2. Immediately answering the nex questions without knowing what they are.

3. I have repeated the learning process without really knowing the content.

Here's what i did differently to passed that darn thing.

1. I've read the content and understand it before moving onto the next category. Ex. Respiratory. I stick to it and understand it and visualize it.

2. I avoid mesmerizing. Memorizing it goes last. Understanding is the primary.

3. Once i understand certain segment, i answer nclex questions for that segment only and read rationals. Again, understand it.

4. Repeat the process throughout each nclex category.

5. DO NOT SKIP UNTIL YOU GET IT.

That is the test plan according to NCSBN. Questions we got may never be questions that you get. I got a lot on central venous access devices.

Sheesh ... seems like mostly everyone gets a lot of maternity questions and next up is Peds ... I'm breaking down every subject and praying that I get all the basics covered

You can do this me just recently passing nclex pn after my fourth time taking it on 8/23 being out of school for two years you can most definitely do this. My content study base was the Saunders book edition 6 read that from front to back did all the questions and I also used uworld for about two weeks before my test which is the closest thing to nclex and also pray a lot lol. Also if you can purchase Regina remar quick facts book the best $25 spent on amazon
